Default Check this out - a new Elecraft KPA500 amplifier

I stumbled across some pictures of a new 500 watt 1.8-54 Mhz amplifier kit from Elecraft - the KPA500! It's rumored to be available this winter!

Light enough to have a bale on it.
IS it a MOSFET?
Let me guess...that is your next project to build/review?

Another close-up photo:

Apparently, this thing was shown at Dayton this year, which I had press passes for but never got to. If United Airlines didn't suck so bad, I would have provided detailed reporting on this new product.

I don't like the way the bandswitch is laid out. The traditional bands are on top while the WARC bands and the 60m band (?!) and 6m are on the bottom. Why not simply lay them all out in order? It's a small point but nevertheless IMHO it would be better. I find it odd that 60m is included given the 50 watt erp power limitation.

Only ham radio has that power limitation. I could make use of this type of power for MARS on 60m. We've been using 60m more and more lately.
