Default What was I hearing?

Earlier today I was driving through the countryside about 60 miles east of Amarillo, TX listening to the local AM news radio station 710 KGNC and that's where this story begins.

Several times I heard radio traffic breaking in and one time I was able to clearly hear a female voice transmitting "704 to base" "I'm at 26th and Georgia". I never heard anyone else but could tell that something else was being transmitted, the female voice was the only clear transmission. This only went on for a few minutes and then everything returned to normal. Now the location given corresponds to streets in Amarillo and I'm fairly certain it had to be a VHF/UHF radio transmission but I've never heard it interfere with AM radio stations (710 AM) before.

Tell me everything.

Most likely the broadcast station was using a VHF/UHF radio link called an STL, or studio/transmitter link, to carry the audio from the studio out to the transmitter site. It is that link frequency that was being interfered with most likely. We had the local DNR office get on the air once or twice when a link receiver we had developed a spur in the oscillator allowing to pick up two differant frequencies at the same time.
