Default Attic antenna- A99 vs Double Bazooka

This is my first post on this forum so I would like to thank everyone ahead of time for input. The house I live in has a history of lighting strikes to any externally mounted antenna. It is a two story brick farm house orginally constructed in 1892. I am currently running a 1/2 aluminium GP, for the early 80's "the one that looks like a jack- center mast-with three radials," it is at 15 feet in the yard with RG8/u coax. I will be able to get up to just over 24 feet and be at the highest point around if I place an antenna in my attic. I only run barefoot CBs. 'Just sold my only kicker. I am debating between an A99 flatside in the attic, or a Double Bazooka. I would like to use about a 98 foot run of RG8x, due to flexability, to get back to the radios in the basement. I did a search of the site and found a few older posts of forum members being please with a flatside A99 and the Double Bazooka in the attic, but I would still like some current input if available.

Thank you,
Seceret Squirrel

I honestly don't think an antenna under the roof would be safer than one on it.

Does the roof have lightning rods?

An indoor antenna isn't ever going to be as good as an outdoor antenna of the same type and height. But, there are times when they can be much more practical or convenient to use. As long as the house construction isn't such to limit radiation, metal siding, metal sided insulation, duct work, that sort of thing, an antenna in the attic should be at least comparable to a similar antenna outside at the same height.
Are they as susceptible to lightning strikes? Good question, and I can't honestly say that they would be a great deal less susceptible, just depends. I tend to think they would be less susceptible, but that's just a guess.
I can say that since that attic antenna would be closer to stuff in the house that it will probably affect things (RFI) more than your present antenna. How much? No idea, but count on a little 'extra' work 'cleaning' things up, sort of.
Try it! See what happens.

The attic of the house has no electrical wiring. the slate roof was removed about twenty years ago and replaced with current construction. On its side the A99 should function as an end feed antenna and be more directional. My theory is that a flatside A99 may out perform a Double Bazooka type dipole at 24 feet from the ground and inside a wooden structure. It will be used with 98 feet of RG8x and I only run barefoot equipment.
