I took out 2 rows of 8' florescent tubes with my 27'' shaft 10-k at the local Ace hardware.

But this thread/link also raises some more questions:
Is the Sirio Z-180 the ULTIMATE base load antenna?
Should I forget about the Sirio 4000 in favor of the Sirio Z-180?
Do they still make the Sirio Z-180?
Or would I do as well by putting a larger diameter stinger/whip on my Wilson 1000?
sorry to my best of knowledge the z180 isnt advailable.i got mine from coppers in 07 or 08?you will see a noticable gain .however it wont be huge.at 20 miles my wilson with a stock 68 showed signs of fading signals .so i stoped screwed on on sirio i was
being heard again as well i was hearing my base.there was only a 1-sunit increse but hey that was the differece between not being heard and being heard.i drove other direction i has slightly better results.i seen almost 2 -s units.sooo thats why i said 1-2 sunit increase

Hi Rob,

I have one of those Z-180 antennas that I bought last year but was not able to get a good SWR reading as the 1000 had..if you are interested I will let you do give it a sample test on your current set up and see if it works well for you...
I will contact you on the band.
Russ

well It looks like the Sirio Hi Power 3000 and 4000 are the best mobile antennas it seems.

I do have a 9ft tank whip which i am going to try next time i am static mobile and see how well it peforms against the sirio's

Thanks for all of your input.

Many thanks to Bob and Delta for helping me clear this one up

I got a Sirio Z-180 from Russ - for the purpose of writing a review. I will set it up on my vehicle tomorrow - so that the SWR is correct when I switch between the Wilson 1000 and the Sirio Z-180.

I will be using a Wilson mag-mount, a Honda CR-V, Galaxy 99V, and a Astatic D-104 from my end. Russ will choosing his best radio (out of 100's of them!!! - no joke) to test the receve at his end. As well as me seeing the difference or receive at my end - I will attempt to make this as thorough evaluation as I can.

I'll start another thread this Sunday with the results and happenings of this Wilson 1000 vs the Sirio Z-180 'shootout'...

LOL, there is no point of contact for ground until you get to the base of the antenna so tapping the coil before you reach that area is still no good. Here is the link for the 300 and 4000 series which is possible that dc ground is there.
Sirio Antenne - Products

But on the 5000 series there is a single section that pivots and is the only path from the antenna to the base so there can be no shunting before the pivot section and it would have to be in the base so tapping the coil is impossible before the pivot.

Pictures don't lie.

this is whats the fuss all about??????????
i put my Predator 10K up against them any day
with half the watts

The fuss is about them being dc grounded not whether they'll out perform any other antenna.
