Radio shack will have nothing to replace this with.
If were mine I would upgrade to MosFet. Unless I had some 2312's laying around.

If you use a 2312 you may need to add 75 to 100 pf to the coupling capacitor.
But the MosFet is the best way to go.

Talking radio shack has a mosfet that will work in a pinch

actually radioshack has a irf510 they stock, and if u know how to put in erf 2030 or irf520 its not as good as a irf520 but will work about $2 and you can go to cbtricks.com then mosfet expirementers info copy and build the erf1230 and you will be back in buisness.

This is the page that shows how to put a MOSFET transistor in a Cobra 29.
Pay attention to ALL details - and make sure you protect the MOSFET from ANY possible static. Static will destroy them easily - so buy a couple of them. You can get a lot of power out of these setups - more than a Cobra 29 does stock.
