Forgive me if I start this post at subject. I am new to APRS and I am having difficulty getting my VX-8R to do send and receive message. I have read the manual many times and still cannot get it to work. Can you be kind enough to post me a link or give me a short step by step instruction on how to set it up and use it. I would be much appreciated. I have been reading this forum for a while in search of a simple way to put this new radio to use. Thank you so much in advance for any help that you can give me.

Bellmiata,

Do the part shown in the video first. Are you able to see your station on the web after sending a beacon as described? Worry about that first and then we'll cover how to send a message.

Thank you so much fellows for helping me with the aprs. I am now able to see my callsign on aprs.fi. Another question? does the modem have to be turn off in order for me to use the radio or is there a way to keep the modem on and still able to transmit and receive? Beside that I am ready to learn how to send and receive aprs messages. Thank you again KJ4PZX and Moleculo.

You can leave the modem on at all times if you want. However, it does take battery power. If you want to do both APRS and talk at the same time, put the radio in dual VFO mode. Leave the B VFO on the aprs frequency (144.390) and the A VFO on whatever frequency you want to monitor/talk.
