Default What is your portable emergency station?

For those that actively participate in some kind of emergency comms organization, what is your portable station comprised of? I'll list the contents of mine later below in the same thread.

Kenwood TM-V708 or Yaesu FT-7800R. 'J'-pole or Comet GP-1 if really desperate. A lap-top for digital stuff, assorted feed lines, poles, cords, etc, for getting that antenna off the ground. Assorted nails, bolts, screws, other stuff for making connections to stuff. This time of year, clothing to make me look like the Michelin-man in quilted goose-down (thong and straw hat for the summer. Yeah, right.). Something like 20 pounds of note paper, and one pencil (I like to bum pencils/pens!). Large supply of the appropriate beverage to the season. Munchies! Spare battery pack for the hearing aide. The rest I beg for... Oh, and a generator. (The gas for same falls in the begging category too.) Pleas for volunteers... mainly to jerk on the starter cord for the generator and for fetching the other 'begged' stuff. - 'Doc ... 'Beach Bunnies' to do the 'serving' are nice... except this time of year.

Here are the basics of my portable emergency station:

I've set up my Jeep so that it is fully funtional and self contained. It's comprised of an Icom 706MKIIG, Ameritron AL-500 amp with remote head, and Hi-Q 4/80RT antenna. I've got a cap hat above the coil and a telecoping 12' whip that I can put on real quick while stationary. I've put a 200amp alternator in the vehicle so it'll give the amp the power it needs. I also have a Comet CA-2X4SRB 2m/440 antenna which is broadbanded enough to get you coverage of the MARS frequencies around 2m.

For digital communications, i have the super small Sony Vaio VGN-UX280P UMPC computer with extra battery in the Jeep at all times. I run that with MIXW interfaced to the transceiver with a RigExpert Standard. The RigExpert is small enough that I keep it in one of the seat pockets also. I can hook up the computer to the rig in about 2 minutes and be on the air to send / receive traffic. I actually get practice doing this a couple times a week right after work before I go home. The only thing that I have to "grab and go" in a real, deployed emergency situation is my AEA DSP-2232 TNC. I've set that up to run off a cigarette lighter plug also. I use XPWare for Windows and Airmail software with the TNC. I would like to see someone come up with a really small TNC that can do Pactor that I could just leave in the vehicle.

I also have a basic setup I can use in my RV. That's a Yaesu 857D that I run various hamstick antennas off of. If I park, I usually just put the SuperAntenna MP-1 portable on. I can run that radio to the TNC or hook it up to the little Sony Vaio UMPC via the RigExpert also. And like everyone else, some coax, wire, ladderline, etc. can make a nice antenna in a hurry. I have a spool of small rope and dipole insulators made up to put up a wire antenna if I want to. I usually also take a small MFJ-904H tuner if I'm going to do that. The RV has a nice generator.

I actually have the jeep set up for towing behind the RV. If I had to go onsite someplace, I would just hook up the jeep to the RV and go. That only takes me about 10 minutes to do.

BTW, I didn't see anyone else mention it yet, but for a lot of the emergency services you really NEED to have a TNC with you to be useful. If you don't have one, consider finding a decent used one that can do Pactor / Amtor.

Default e com equment

<br>
I have built up A trailer out of A 1948 higgins tent camper (that the tent rotted out after 50 years )
I used sheet metal and built up the sides ,and installed windows from a vw camper bus.
I insulated with blue board ,and paneled with oke plywood .
on the tung I mounted a metal box with 2 deep cycle batteries.
under the bench in the inside I mounted a hart interface puts out 110v. 2500w.
In the roof there is A large ceramic feed trough insulator and an Shakespeare at1011u military antenna .
mounts on it (30 foot vertical) on the inside is an LDG automatic antenna tuner .
I also have 2 as 2259 nvis antennas
I like the military antennas because of there rugged construction .
I have mounted a kenwood ts 50s in the trailer and A radio shack 2 meter
with a 1/4 wave ant on the roof
also have a ab15 military antenna on the roof for 20 through 6 meters

I mounted A laptop (one that is all in the monitor) on the bench and a wifi
antenna on top for networking to the e com trailer our local group has

This trailer is an ongoing project (mostly done) till I think up more things to mount

I built it mostly for field day as I love field day
I have been doing field day for 37 years now ,even before I got my ticket
field day is one of the reasons I got my ticket ,I just love field day.

I pull this with my jeep Cherokee witch also has a yeasu ft 100 in it

Hope to hear you on the air field day
And good luck in the contest
