Default President Grant or President Jackson...which is better if any?

Is there any difference between Grant and Jackson? My main interest is AM capability...

Also what years were these radios made?

Which came first?

Thanks

There both great radios so its up to you which you like better. I know the Jackson ran the Higher wattage MRF-477 but Im not quite sure what the Grant uses if its the same or not being its a new radio.

I am guessing the Grant was made in the early 80's...I think--but I am not sure. If my memory is correct the Grant was made before the Jackson...possibly by different companies.

Uniden chassis in either one.

Couldn't go wrong with either one.

Jackson have more narrower AM RX because of use SSB crystal filter in AM RX path. Dual clarifier can go from 0 up to +10KHz on TX/RX and separate fine clarifier knob for RX only. My choice beacause of AM RX performance.

Grant only with PCB PC-999 had dual clarifier, but not as wide as Jackson.
Grant has dual 2sc2312 final stage, can do NPC-RC and after that is AM audio monster doing up to 40 Watts on AM with about 170% of crystal crisp modulation and no flattops on the scope. I've done couple of them that way.
Jackson is low level AM modulation, but sounds great on TX anyway.
Of course you can "rewire" AM path in Grant to go thtough SSB crystal filter byt it is not that easy to do.

go with the grant, better receive with dual conversion & as noted above, low level mod in the jackson on am.
of course it depends on what you're using the radio for, 5 bands vs 3 goes to the jackson, 10kc switch......bite the bullet & buy an ic7000

The application is-- the radio will be installed in my pickup. I want a good AM talker that was made in the in 70's to mid 80's. That is why I am looking at these two radios. I have a mint Jackson and I am in process of purchasing a mint Grant. I need to decide which is the better radio for my application.

Thanks for your feedback.
