It has been about a year since I had my Blue 50w 257 and the 6 push buttons feel better to me. On the one I had the screen for the display felt loose. The rf/mic/sq and clarifier feel about the same though.

Can someone post pic of inside view 257 and 257HP element side?
I wonder if it is only afterburner added or (I doubt) there are some more changes.

My pile-up breaker

They added:

a) Compressor/speech processor
b) Toroid/cap filter in the power in section

They make the 257 with and without the afterburner...

I thought that they had been putting the top gun junk in the 257 ever since they went to the blue displays.

Yep, I have a few of the better classics in my collection. I like em.LOL. Anyway, I haven't tried the 257 in the house yet, but I have been thinking about doing so. I just hate to lose the 10m rig in the jeep. I will have to bring it in and do some comparing, huh?

How would I compare the 257 HP to the OmegaForce HP?
Hmmm...
a) I would have to say that the receive is more sensitive with the 257 and the audio has more punch too. Not saying the OmegaForce has a weak receive - the receive is better than a lot of radios that I own and use. The 257 might have between 5-10% better receive than the OmegaForce - if that.

b) I would say that if one wanted a radio that doesn't have talkback, echo, and a roger beep; then the 257 HP would also be a less costly solution than the OmegaForce HP.

c) The transmit on FM and SSB are equal to the OmegaForce at equivalent power levels. AM mode is not as strong on the 257 as the OmegaFoce; the TG Modulator does make a noticeable difference there. But I wouldn't call it 'weak' either - by any means! It is quite strong. I use an Astatic D104/TUPS-9 on the OmegaForce; so the transmit audio is a little better. But not much better; the stock mic is more than enough and its qualities are more than just acceptable.

going by the two reviews of those radios on this forum the 257 HP seems to be a cleaner transmitting radio than the omegaforce HP .
unless operator error was the cause of the issues above .

i would have thought mentioning that in the omegas review would have been noteworthy . in my opinion it seems to conflict with your conclusion of the omegaforce HP when you said "The only criticism that comes to mind - is that Sam Lewis needs to make more of these radios available to the public."
it also would have kept it from getting 5 stars in my opinion .
