I had mentioned that my old PS went south. It kept blowing fuses. My 757 was hooked up to it. I have noticed that since the PS went bad that the thermal fan on the 757 had started running non stop. Then the other day it would not transmit at first. Then after a bit it started to work fine. Now tonight I turned it on and it is not transmitting again. Could this have been a result of the old PS blowing fuses ? Could some extra voltage got into the radio to mess something up ?

I like the FT897, but don't like options for powering it in the field.

The internal batteries are expensive and don't last very long and recharging them requires taking the unit apart and couldn't be done in the field very easily. And to top it off, it is limited to 20W output. Although I have been told that 20W is good enough, I don't like being limited.

I am looking for alternatives. I am not an electronics guru.

I have come up with a couple ideas that I will run past the group.
Could I/should I, try to wire 4 RCR123A together get my power? Maybe multiple packs to get more mah?
4 Pack RCR123A 3V 900mAh Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery with Smart Charger
I like the idea. I use 123 batteries in other devices so...., but I am not sure I have the skills to pull it off.
CB Tricks says that there is a battery for the cmos in the CPU but, I do not see it; it does not seem to be accessable from the inside of the radio without removing the front panel from the display AFTER the display unit has been separated from the chassis.
I must be missing something......

Over the years I've heard many customers state that most HF rigs are not able to reproduce good sounding AM. My response has been to abandon the low level IF modulation technique in favor of low level RF modulation. Simply put, the IF stages of HF rigs have too many filters inline that restrict bandwidth. It is not worth trying to modify the IF stages. The modification found here The AM Window: Tech: Mods: TS-940S will make your TS-940S sound like a broadcast transmitter on AM and it also improves the SSB response.

I've been comparing the specs of various newer HF transceivers and am still very interested in the Flex 3000. I saw this rig at Dayton and haven't taken my eyes off of it yet.

Here's a shot I took at Dayton of the main board:

and a shot of one of the main software screens:

Here is a an interesting page that has fairly detailed receiver comparison test data from a lot of different rigs. The guys at Flex-Radio sent this to me:

Receiver Test Data

I'm really interested in putting this radio side by side with my Icom 746 Pro and doing a meaningful comparison...they're about the same price. I think it would make for an interesting write-up to really describe how their software works and what it can do.

Whaddya think?

Hi,
Could anyonr tell me about negative swing on AM, and if anyone has remedied that situation. I know the more modern rigs have really NO place on am. But I have a mic that sounds good on am as far as good audio signal reports go, and have an amplifier. But needless to say the amp doesn't work properly with a reversely swinging radio. It swings in reverse at any power level and with any audio adjustment. Any ideas would be sweet !!

Thanks in advance
