Which wire bud headset will work with the CT-131? I found two:

VC-27

MH-37A4B

They seem identical but only work with a subset of yaesu HT's...

Anyone know the right one for the VX-8R with a CT-131?

Thanks!

Hi,

New to the forum, but I've been a ham for a number of years. I've got a couple of old HTs, but I've decided to upgrade to something new. I want a HT that is at least a 2m/70CM and has dual frequencies displayed on the readout. I've read, researched, dug and finally narrowed it down to the Alinco DJ-G7 or the Yaesu VX-8R, the (VX-7R) might also be acceptable. It seems like there is a lot more info and interest in the Yaesus, but I'm kinda leaning towards the Alinco. Any thoughts, opinions or advice is welcome! N6YNV

Hi, I'm finally getting my HAM License. I'll be taking the test on Monday and I'm 99% comfident i'll pass it. I am now shopping for a Hand Held or Base or both.

I don't drive so I don't want a mobile. I get around mostly by foot. I live in an apartment on the 4th/top floor with a balcony which would probably limit my options for owning a base rig.

I've been looking at the Yaesu VX-8R and like it because of all the bells and whistles it has and the fact that it has 4 XT bands.

Thanks in advance for any help you give me!

I have a AA battery pack. I don't like it because when I use it, I can only have 1W output.

Can I increase output by changing the type of batteries I am feeding the battery pack?

I was thinking something like Protected UltraFire 14500 AA sized 3.6V Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery 900 mAh CR14500 Lithium Ion
Protected UltraFire 14500 AA sized 3.6V Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery 900 mAh CR14500 Lithium Ion

The other part of me is thinking that the VX-8R doesn't have a way of regulaing the 3.6V down to something more reasonable.

And I don't have my multi-meter here to measure the voltage coming out of the standard VX-8R battery.

Hello. Great site here, have learned alot over the last couple of weeks. Anyway, I plan on taking the tech exam in the next week or so. With that out of the way I am going to be needing my first radio.

I have read that alot people recommend getting a mobile as your first radio. But it seems most hams have a mobile and a ht. I have been looking at the ht yaesu vx8r. My main use for the radio will be using 2m on the way to and home for work, having aprs when I go camping/hunting/fishing and just general listening to emergency freq. I guess my question is, will I be selling my self short if I go with a ht over a mobile?

Lots of repeaters in the area, the main one is 20-25 miles from the house, will I be able to access it with a ht?

Will getting a mag mount or permanent antenna for my truck help the ht tx and rx better?

My fear is dropping 500 bucks on something that I can't hear or transmit on very well. I like the ht for the aprs and mobility.
Just looking for advice, thanks.
