It's realy sad but the numbers don't realy supprise me at all as the main reason i have stoped studing for my ticket is the way the oldtimmers who SHOULD be ELMERS have become so hardened (at least in apperance) to the thought of WELCOMING of new hams WITHOUT reading them the riot act about how they had to learn 20 WPM and know how to build a transmitter giveup all family and friends then promise their first born to get into the hobbie. I think you will continue to see a downward trend for numbers til the ham community starts to accept the fact that the new hams are not going to put up with that crap. I hope they figure it out befor Nextel convinces the FCC that "the numbers show that the hobbie is dead or diying" and they could put those frequencys to use in a much better way for the betterment of the public. What i'm saying is there's other pepole out there keeping track of the numbers and THEY have plans.

CHARLEYMARBLES

very good point...

it was at first the fact i thought all hamers were like some of those crusty old times, that kept me from even wanting to get my licence..

at least i opened my eyes to realise not all and in fact only a small percentage of ham radio operators are like that..

i actually think many ham operators (myself included) like to help others break though the wall many wishfull new times have in getting past their nervousness or needing help to get their tests passed..

Remember..
there are good operators in all forms of cumminications just as there is usally a small percentage of bad operators..

Aye KC but i have spent ALOT of money on radio equipment and it would only be a drop in the bucket to the money i would shell out for ham gear :? I have this problem i tend to go all out when i do anything  lol is prolly why when i finnish my truck it will flatout whip any other truck i hook it too ERRR any thing streetable that is
Back to the point i'm not gonna spend my money on a hobbie and then find out i don't like the people i have to shere it with Please don't get me wrong KC i know there are some good ones out there but from what i read out here THEY are the minority and till i see a change in that attitude i'm just not interested I had an aquantance that i thought was a friend who is a ham and he got me started studing and i bought the books and we got together a few times and then he just wigged out on me cause i mentioned that i needed to find a tech to fix an amp i tosted in my mobile while i was playing  So i started listening to the ham bands on my scanner and all i heard was how them cber's were this and that and the older general and extra classes complaining about them damn no-code techs verry few that were there to realy enjoy and promote the hobbie Thats when i stoped studing.
then i started surfing and for the most part all i see is more of the same  Gonna take a real change for me to get interested again

My depest hope is that that change happins before the ham hobbie dies compleatly

That sort of blows the idea that a no code license will bring in the numbers don't it? I thought we were supposed to have MORE no-code Techs since it didn't require CW.....

Well if the "old crusty's" keep running them off the numbers will never get any better. This is exactly my point, there is only one good explaination for the loss of the lower class opperators. And that is NO ONE LIKES TO BE TALKED DOWN TO
at some point hopefully the old guys have got to "learn" how to be "ELMERS" instead of just crochity old ham's and i hope that happins before the hobbie dies

This is a little off topic , but I wonder how many cb operators there is in the U.S. This is just a guess but I would say it would at least be two for ever one ticket holder, do you all think that is about right? If it is and we have them crowded onto 40 channels it is understandable why folks move out of band to talk, not saying right or wrong just saying it is easy to understand why if you stop and think about it for a few minutes.

And the ones that are left say, "Good riddance to bad rubbage"
Why don't you guys take personal responsibility and just admit that you cannot or that you are not interested enough to apply yourselves and work for something worth having.

I am not sorry that "exclusive" CB'ers feel "Looked down at and talked down" to when dealing with the Amatuer Radio community; you bought it upon yourselves. And, your "wishful" thinking / prediction that the hobby will die and everybody will just become unregulated CB'ers in very disingenuous; in your dreams!

Now, get back into your 11 meter cage and don't come back out until the peak of the next sun-spot cycle; if you come out before then I will get a daypass from the nursing home and chase you down with my motorized wheelchair and beat you with my cane.

Don't make us mean old hams get the AARP on your young 102 inch-whipper snapper butts, then you will really have something to cry about
