Thanks that is what I was trying to find out at least a name to go with the facade.

Personally I wasn't really sad to see the code drop from the testing and I do not believe CW has anything to do with an association of an exceeding knowledge of anything but mode of operation. No need to put any mode of operation up on a plinth in this day and age, but that is my opinion.

HOW is it "incorrect"? Converting a CB radio to work on any HF band for which the operator has license or authorization is perfectly LEGAL. Many CB radios have been converted to operate on 10 Meters and articles in QST provided diagrams on how to do it. Nothing "illegal" about it.

As to following the law, I stand by the original statement. There are about 600,000 licensed hams in the US. In a given month, there are 4-5 hams who receive warning notices, some of which are technical violations, some are regulatory violations. IOW, where someone is actually intentionally violating the rules. These are VERY small in number.

CWM,
You have not read either post correctly. He said-

It's ok to covert a ham radio to talk on 11meter but not the other way.

Yes, it IS! That's because the amateurs generally follow the law, and because they DO test on their technical AND regulatory knowledge, they are expected to toe to a higher standard. In fact, there are GOOD, solid, and LEGAL reasons to modify amateur equipment.
Read CAREFULLY the bold words. It is not ok to convert a ham radio to talk on 11 meter.

Another case of what's good for the goose is not neccesarily good for the gander scenario.

Very true. If you read that cb forum he is an admin on you will find that he once lived in AZ then moved to Oregon and now back to AZ. It's the same person.

It is NOT legit to convert a Ham rig to talk on CB, It is fine to Listen anywere you want, just do not get caught transmiting there.
Now it is VERY seldom that you hear of someone getting a NAL for something IN the Cb band unless they are causing a ton of problems, and draw the fire of half a dozen complants.

It is Fine to convert a Cb to Ten Meters, and years ago, it was very common to do so, I used a TRC-448 On ten meters for over a year before I got my first "real" ten meter rig, a HR 2510, from AES.

As for me personally, I had NO problem with canning the code test, even if I did have to pass it, that is just the way it is, and it was no big deal for me.
Life is full of changes, and if you don`t roll with it you are stuck in a rut.
You bet I run a ten meter rig in my truck..My RCI 6900-F-25 is a great ten meter rig, bought it used, great deal.
Sometimes I pull it out and run my Yaesu 897D, I switch back and forth all the time, half a dozen radios depending on what I am doing, and what radio I feel like playing with.
They are all Legal as Ice cream as long as I only use them to Transmit on the bands I am Lic for, and listen everywere else it goes.
As for Ham getting away with something ( holy`er than thou ) ....... it is so easy to get a general Lic now that there is no excuse, any one that wants to take advantage of all that ham radio has to offer needs only to study the online tests at QRZ for a few weeks, find a VEC tem in your area that is doing the test, and go do it...real simple.
As for Radioactive, ir you stick you butt out the window in front of the man long enough, you will get noticed.
I grew up playing with Cb, and the internet has changed things a lot. Many years ago, you did not see Amps or a converted radio out in the open. The fact that you can google "export radio" and get a dozen hits on the first page....well after a while ....
Them is the chances you take, and he made his own choice.

Audio,

I really find it amazing how so many of the dealers have already been warned---even FINED-----their websites are STILL up, they are STILL selling so-called "10 Meter" radios and amplifiers, they are STILL declaring that these radios are legal to market despite they held a document in their widdle hands TELLING them they were illegal and to STOP!!!!! They defiantly soldier on thumbing their noses at the Feds, DARING them to move against them. I"ve even seen websites MOCKING the FCC, mocking Mr. Hollingsworth and, again, just DARING them to come after them!!!!!
Most of them are well-known dealers, too! And when fire and brimstone didn't rain down on them right away the websites and forums laughed some more saying, "See? FCC is a paper tiger! They aren't gonna do any thing! They ain't got the manpower, they ain't got this, they ain't got that!" Well, right now, they are busy with the digital change-over. I'm told they WILL get around to these fellows after awhile, and when they DO? I wouldn't want to be in their shoes! Anybody that keeps on AFTER they have been told to STOP is not very smart, IMHO. Take Pacetronics, for example. That company was warned, cited, it got sold, it got FINED, apparently it is back in original management, and STILL they carried on on the web selling "10 Meter" radios and amps. Recently, it got hit AGAIN and THIS time, the illegal radios are GONE! The owner was defiant. He had BIG, Texas lawyers to fight FCC!~ He was going to show FCC what for!!! UM, O-O-O-O-O-KAY!!!!! Whaddya wanna bet they threatened him with JAIL?

What does it TAKE to be convinced?
