| I tuned around the 80 meter dial for a while tonight, and I'll agree some of the characters on there get a little too carried away with their subject matter, but I can't say I really heard anything I thought was any kind of serious violation either. No insult intended to anyone, but it seemed to me the entire band is controlled by red necks and hillbillies talking about shooting varmints and critters, arguing over the proper way to fix a farm tractor, the right way to clean a possum, and a whole lot of general silliness. I found most of it quite entertaining. I'm an early to bed, early to rise guy here, so what happens late night on there doesn't concern me since I won't be around to hear it. The only complaint I could possibly have with the whole 80 meter thing is, not one of the groups holding court seem to like, or out right don't allow outsiders to join in, and some of those groups are a little too possessive of their frequencies. Just because you and all your cronies have been holding court on the same frequency for the last 20 years doesn't make it "your" frequency, it's still public domain to all others licensed to use it, and I think some of those fellas tend to forget that fact, or care not to respect it.....

| Hey MIG, Well that's some interesting sentiment coming from " Nu Friggin' Joisey" eh? And surely the hillbillies and rednecks feel the same way about them thar damm yankees. The part about groups operating on a regular frequency is merely long standing custom and tradition. Might as well get used to it for that is the way it is. There are all types on ham radio just as anywhere or anything else. We can't all fit in everywhere and ham radio is no exception. Find a group you like and try to join them. Avoid the ones that turn you off. Spin the dial and don't let it bother you. If stuff like this bothers anyone....it's their own fault. In this way ham radio is like ebay or the stock market. It can be compared to a game. Learn the way the game is played in your area and play it...or go do something else. Thanks |

I was just making a general observation based on an hours worth of listening, and I did say that I found it all quite entertaining....(or did you miss that part) I'am in no way complaining about 80 meters or those who frequent that band, it's all just a observation and personal opinion. I do not have anything against red necks or hillbillies, if you knew anything about "Nu Friggin Joisey" you'd know that we also have our fair share of red necks, and even though a certain segment of our population are not actually called hillbillies here (since we don't have hills), we are called "Piney's" instead. I also fully agree with your assesment that if it don't suit your style of ham radio, spin the dial....I practice that often. Again...I was simply making a general observation, and expressing my own personal opinion on it. This is what chat forums are supposed to be about. I take no offense to anything you have said, and I don't believe you should be offended by anything I have said....

actually , i don't listen to them, just their "splatter" when i am in the other group on 3.842.5.... a group of polite operators that were there long before them. we and them have an unwritten "agreement" , we yield the freq to them all nite ....and they yield to us about sunrise. |
