Hi to all again,

Since my last video/post...

I've received my Yaesu VX-8R back from Yaesu Inc. California with a note saying they cleaned it up and generally found nothing wrong with it in so sent it back to me?!?

Apparently the tech who wrote the note saw my YouTube post via worldwidedx.com !

Here's My Solution:

1) Take apart the radio
2) Investigate the inside features
3) Locates and see if speaker contacts can be fixed
4) Adjust spring loaded contacts to provide more force against speaker
5) Put radio back together making sure water tight seals are still in place.
6) Tests radio and hey presto problem solved...!

****************** Original Problem with Audio ******************

Hi,

My Yeasu VX-8R has developed an issues with it's speaker where the sound output is muffled or as some would describe crunchy. It seems to have to do with the speaker contacts with the main board as when you press on the speaker (squeeze the radio) the audio returns to normal! Other that this the radio functions perfectly ?!?

Should I RMA this radio or is this normal?

First, good work.
Second, wait, did you end up fixing it or did the tech? If he/she looked at it, and your youtube video, did nothing, and sent it back that is not cool.

Good work, and cool video. What did you use to shoot the video?

Yaesu should sponsor the site :) If we had access to new equipment to review and test as it came out, think of the publicity ;)

The tech at Yaesu just cleaned it up and did nothing to fix it as far as I can tell - They just sent it back...

I figured in desperation of a fix that I might as well take a peek inside the radio to see if I could do anything...

It's kinda interesting you ask... I'm actually using my HTC Diamond Phone attached to a clamp (I don't own a video camera). It has a 3.2Mpix Camera with real auto focus. Makes for a good substitute video camera eh....!

I hope they come back to visit and see that I've fixed the issue... and hopefully learn something about us Hammies, were quite a resourceful bunch when it comes to fixing things ourselves.

P.S> If you guys want me to review anything else about the Yaesu VX-8R I can. I have the Hand Mike, GPS Module, Dry Cell Battery Pack plus both the 1100mAh and 1800mAh batteries. The Bluetooth module is still back ordered at my local shop... Doh! The only thing I'm missing is the Data Cable and Software from RT.
