I remember reading that the manual was wrong for setting the time. I know I read the corrected steps once before because I had set the time when I got my radio.

I cant find the proper directions any more. Ive searched here and the Yahoo group but to no avail.

Does anyone have it?

Thanks,
Gary

excrpit from the VX-8R manual : CLOCK SET
The VX-8R has a 24-hour clock with a calendar which covers all dates from January 1,
2000 through December 31, 2099 (accuracy: ±30 sec/month).
To set the clock:
1. Press and hold the key for one second to enter the Set Mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Set Mode Item 98: TIME
SET.
3. Press the key briefly to enable adjustment of this Menu
Item.
4. Rotate the DIAL knob to select the “year” setting.
5. Press the key briefly, then rotate the DIAL knob to
select the “month” setting.
6. Repeat the above step to set the “day,” “day of the week,”
“hour,” and “minute” selections.
7. Press the key briefly, then rotate the DIAL knob to set
“Timer Signal” On (SIG) or Off (––). In the “SIG” mode, a
double-beep will be emitted from the speaker at the top of
each hour, as long as the transceiver is turned on.
8. Press the key briefly, press the key to start the clock from “00” seconds.
9. When you have finished the time press the PTT switch to save the new setting
and return to normal operation.

For those with the GPS hookup.....I don't understand why the clock is not pulled from the GPS.

Yes CJ, that's what the manual says but it doesnt work. The clock never adjusts after you press PTT.

There was a thread somewhere about the correct procedure to set the time, I should have bookmarked it.

Edit: I emailed Yaesu tech support. Lets see what they say about it.

It does. Go into the GPS menu settings, go to menu 17 - GPS TIME SET. Set it to "Auto". You still have to tell it what time zone you're in on menu 24 - TIME ZONE.

Yes, the instructions are wrong in the manual:

To set the time manually, after you go into the time set menu, hit the MODE button to move from the Year to month, to date, to day, to time settings. Rotate the Dial to change the value of each one as necessary. When you're done, keep hitting the MODE button until the SET word is high-lighted by the cursor. Then hit the V/M button to save.

I posted this in the reveiw thread (I think) because I had to figure it out for myself!

Thanks, I tried searching all over for that. Its permanently in my memory now. I got a reply from Yaesu tech support that said I should call them. I tried 3 times but all I get is the guy's voicemail. Ill try again later and see what he says.

Thanks,
Gary

Thank you,
I look all over trying to do that, but never could figure it out.

I figured out the problem from this thread. The problem happens when you don't have a GPS unit installed and the GPS Time Set is set to Auto.

To set time:
Press mode briefly once to go into GPS mode. This screen has a small circle on the left, and the words "mph" and "ft " on the bottom right.
Press and hold the MENU key until the GPS menu appears. This menu contains the GPS settings. Those settings are not accessible in the menu options from the main display.
Go to <17 GPS TIME SET>
Change from AUTO to MANUAL
You now will be able to set the time using the Yaesu instructions in the manual which are also listed above.

After popping the battery off the unit the problem across again. Now the fix I reported no longer works.
