Home brew base ant!!!

O.K. I took a Junction box or some kinda electrical box that you can remove the caps by bending it to break. Anyways, I mounted on a Gumball mount into one of the holes, used the wire clamp and inserted one of the groundplane rods from my Starduster and clamped it into the junction box, then screwed on my homemade fightingsticks from my starduster groundplane rods. It is in a "L" like configuration. I was wondering if this will make it directional or omni????

Both elements are the same lenghts. I used my SWR meter and it read 1.5:1 SWR.

All I wanted to know if it will be directional if I have only one element on one side of the antenna?

Most of the interference/RF interference with this setup have disappeared as when I had the partial stardust up. But, just waiting for some condition to test it out if it really works well.

Not sure about yours but I know a guy that did his with a 102 whip and another mobile antenna in the L shape and he said his wasn't directional so yours will probably be omni now I am looking to do something like that and I am going by what he said so let me know how it works for you

It sounds like have made a 1/4 wave ground plane, like the ones that were available back in the hey day of the 70's for mounting on you window sill or balcony.

i would have thought the antenna would have been directional in tx and rx in the direction of the single ground radial . the same way a mobile antenna has more tx and rx to the front of the vehicle if you mount the antenna at the rear of the vehicle . or the opposing front corner if you mount it on a rear corner .

I tried raising it up about 8ft. as well, but performance was ok at best. The dipole beat it hands down. I now have a real antenna.
