I need to further my education on working on CB radios. I may be a Ham; but figure I need to have a simpler understanding of radios and how they work just to get a better understanding of the far more complex Ham radios.

What I need to find, is a really decent book that can give me an on-hands approach to working on some CB's that I have - that can also give me some solid advice and insights into radios.

Anybody have their own collection? Which book taught you the most - w/o being an outright engineers book. I need this book so I can fix some radios I have - so it needs to work both ways...

ROB -

In my opiniom, "UNDERSTANDING AND REPAIRING CB RADIOS for the Professional Technician," by Lou Franklin is the best book out there. Easy to read and understand. It was writen about 20 years ago, so it's kinda dated, but it's still applicable. Basic CBs haven't changed that much in the past 20 years anyway.

I'd start with this one also. I have it and a lot / most of the material still applies. That suggestion by Ken on the Navy NEET series is a good one also. I didn't find out about that stuff until after I had bought a few books, but I wish I had found it earlier.

Rob,

The publications by Lou Franklin are good. I am a retired Navy veteran and can personally vouch for the excellent Navy electronics program, to include the NEETS series which is a great way to learn or refresh your knowledge of electricity and electronics. There are several places on the internet where these pdf files can be found free of charge. I just found a new location after a quick search.

Free electronics course - NEETS

Good Luck,

I ordered the "Screwdriver Experts Guide to Peaking Out and Repairing CB Radios" by Lou Franklin/used from Amazon for $24 including shipping. I did some online reading, and found it to be the starter book - so to speak. I am also reading the NEET manual and have it bookmarked.

Start with the Understanding & Repairing CB Radios and other books by Lou Franklin. The CB Pll Data book is a must have as well... learn to actually understand what you are doing and you will go much much further.

I have a file cabinet filled with books and can tell you this LOu Franklin books all the way get screwdrivers Expert Guide it has some really cool info and easy to understand after read through that open up is big yellow book understanding and repairing CB radio YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!

the screwdriver experts guide is a cool book to have, but Ron, you probably already know most if not all of whats in there.

you are at the level where you need "understanding and repairing CB radios".

trust me its worth the investment.
you will be very happy you bought it.
LC

when you do buy it; read it from cover to cover first, even if you dont understand what you are reading at first.
then you can go back and read on whatever subjects you want to fully understand.

There are lots of old books made in the 70's about cb repair that can be purchased cheap.
Leo Sands used to put out alot of repair/.cb books back in the day. I see them on Ebay all the time for a buck or 2.

Check out some of Leo Sands books...you can usually buy them cheap.
