Got a siltronix 1011d and it seems that the previous owner had changed the 10 meter portion to the 11 meter free band.Does anyone have a clue as to how to restore this? I checked the specs on the radio and the original crystals are present.It would be really nice to have both the 10 meter and the free band but don't know if that's possible.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Alex

if i were you, i would not even try to restore it to origional.

keep it on 11, it isn't called a 1011 D(rifter) for nothing

Join the Siltronix 1011 yahoo group. They are a great bunch of guys. Not too active, but ask the question and they will help you out. Mine had an added cap in the vfo. Removed it and had all of 11 and all of 10, too. There are many things that could have been done, but those guys can help you track it down.

The mod is easy. Look at the band switch. The ten meter side of the
band switch is wired a certain way. I can't remember the exact process
but wire the 11 meter side the same way.
Reverse the above and you got it.....

That is not how it works. The band switch mod only enables 11m transmit, it does nothing to affect the coverage.

I had a 1011D at one time and it was modded for 11 meters, There is a coil right behind the tuning knob inside the case,somewhere on that coil was a wire soldered ...somehow that wire made the mod work,I also had the book and that wire was added to the orginal drawings by hand...at least for my radio from what I remember....

Keep in mind I had that radio back in the mid 90s ...way to many blurry evenings since then

I am sure there is several ways to make that mod work


Those are fun radios to run...and you do have to work that radio ..it is not a stable rig to say the least,but if you have a Siltronix frequency display you can set it so that you can track your drift ,not hard to do...

They are tough rigs to...Get the M2057 tube ( get the shorter tube and it will fit inside case..get the longer one and you will have to drill a hole for the tube cap)..The M2057 tube would add about 50 to 75 watts over the factory tube and not be stressing the other systems in radio...No need to run a power mic with it,the factory shure mic had a good solid sound

the database on mods is HUGE, a lot of good people on their that can help you unmod that transciever.

tube conversion is done with a low cost 6lb6, diagram and instructions are also on the yahoo siltronix group.

stability, once it is aligned correctly, 15 to 30 minute warm up it is pretty stable. the key is alignment.

I have a few 1011d and c's in the collection, and yes I work 10 meters with them, great RS reports, non amplified d-104 or a shure 444, does not get any better than those old tubers.

If you want to get real serious there are a few VFO stabilizer kits that can be installed in them also. I have one in the Swan 700cx and after five minutes it is rock solid on freq.

Well the 1011D is on my short list now. Saw a few on eBay. What is the carrier insertion? Adjustable dead key? Double side band? Eleven meters is receive only? Haha that's funny.
