Vertex HF rig?

Vertex Standard = Yaesu

Vertex Standard is the parent company,Yaesu is the amateur radio division.

so what is the difference,
yaesu=clip a diode or solder a jumper pad
vertex=freeband out the box?

All the features and language is marine speak. Being marketed as a Marine HF rig.

So what's the Army going to talk on?

No silly, Marine as in Maritime, shipping, boating. Big CB for your rowboat.

Vertex Standard VX-1700 HF radio is simply Vertex (Yaesu) commercial HF rig. Channelized. Channels installed depends on the service. Normally dealer programmed, but can be user programmed. Marine Mobile, Diplomatic service, Mining, Forestry, Military contractors, etc., etc. Anyone who needs a professional commercial rig.

A lot of countereits are coming out of China. Here it is in Az for less money.
Action Communications: Vertex/Standard VX-1700-A0-125, HF Transceiver, 200 channels, 25-125 Watt, List $970.00

Vertex has a factory in China, and a lot of Chinese product is "gray market" out the back door of the factory. At $662.50, plus 105.50 shipping, that will probably land at your door for about $768.00. The Chinese fudge their customs forms. I received my Chinese radios right to the door, bypassing any customs for exactly the price I paid.

counterfeit is a poor term to describe electronic goods, the word unauthorized would be better fitting considering such goods are often made by the same people on the same tooling as the legitimate product. A factory in hong kong normally runs 2 shifts making electronic goods, but they also often have a 3rd shift that works in secrecy. Some of the components may be substituted, some things may lack, some things may be extra but overall there aint much difference between an unauthorized product and a real one.

the corporations also like to call goods intended for a different region counterfeit but the difference is total horseshit.

you might could consider the chinese electronics sold under no name or name nobody ever heard of, that have little or no resemblance to products sold in the west, counterfeit goods. The dont bother to pay patent royalties, or give a hoot about a software patent or copyright.

I've got one of these

Hi,

I bought a Vertex Standard VX 1700 back when they came out in 2006-07. It is a very nice radio with very good specifications that are better than most "Ham" rigs. These radios are mostly sold to third-world users, with a few making it into the USA. This being said, they are simple yet very good units. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I needed one. Strangely enough, mine was made in Japan. However the microphone was made in China as are the ones on several of my other Yaesu-type radios.

Just my 2c. If you would like to know anything else about these units or set up a schedule to talk to me on HF to see what one sounds like, I'd be happy to accommodate.

Sincerely,

Steve/AC5CH

Mod for VX 1700

The modification is also easy for the 1700. It involves a plug with two shorted pins. I'll post more when I get back home to my computer, there. I think the range is 1.6-30 MHz TX&RX if I remember right.

I found the FSW001VER 1_02_USA firmware update for VFO enable. this program wont connect to the radio, I am using a serial CT62 cable.
