Nine alternators(two more not in pic) at 1.8 Megawatts EACH, prime power rated. The plant is designed to run seven paralleled for a total of 12,600,000 watts, or 12.6 megawatts.

Each is driven by a 3516B V16 Caterpillar, that sucks a ton of fuel, and costs a small fortune to maintain. Each generator burns about 100 gallons of fuel an hour at full load, and takes over 100 gallons of oil(which is changed every TEN DAYS).

Here's whats happens when one has a bad day.

That's only one side. It also shelled two pistons out the opposite side. Pistons measure ~ 7" in diameter. They make one heck of an ashtray.

The last cutter I was on had a Pair of those 3516 as the main diesel engines and we had a similar experiance chasing a mexican launcha off from texas, grenaded 2 pistons through the block, the rods flew out and almost went through the hull, the oil caught on fire as it sprayed out onto the red hot exhuast and turbo b/c we where running 2000rpm and 30kts in a 110' full boat, it was a great day.......... limped home on one engine.

There was a generator at the campground a guy was taking somewhere. It was 250 kilowatts. Thought I could have some fun with that badboy.
