Hey 40, I heard a slight echo behind your voice when you were transmitting. Could have been 'grey line propagation' - a mix of forward signal and the long path around the globe. I've only heard it a few times before, but that is what I heard. I know that Yakimo you have doesn't have echo, so I have no other possible explanation than grey line propagation. Too cool!

Robb, FWIW grey line propagation is not a mix of "forward signal and the long path around the globe". It is simply propagation that is enhanced by both stations being located along the grey line , or commonly known as the terminator line that is within an hour of sunrise/sunset.On end of the path, the night side, has no D layer to absorb signals because it has dissipated while the other station has not yet seen an increase in the D layer in the morning. There is no combining of short path and long path signals on grey line. Typical grey line signals peak strongly and then die all within a few minutes sometimes or as long as 1/2 hour or so.

A signal with echo is a combining of signals, one direct and the other from a complete trip around the world.

Looks like Robb that we were in there at about the same time. I talked to couple of them today also.

Also see you talked to Beth in Wales - very nice lady!

I'm jealous!
Don't be. Approaching the peak of the solar cycle next year; expect it to get a whole lot crazier than it is now. Next time, it will be you coming up with some scores too . . .

Very nice lady! I'm sure that I missed many contacts because I am still a newbie at this. Thanks for all of tips, Larry! I'd still be trying to get out of the gate without that help.

BTW - conditions were so strong that the 80 watts I ran was more than enough with the Sirio 4 element beam I used:

Well Robb, I am just running 85 watts and that's more than enough - for I am not worried how strong my signal is, as long as the stations can hear me.

This morning 8:30am our time, I had a nice qso with a guy from his mobile, we talked for about 10 min., he was 34 AB 138 - Mike in the Canary Islands.

Got word today from a station in Norway, that I was being heard in the 317 div (UC), he was trying to call me, but I never heard him..........oh well.

Also 175 div (TT) will be coming up in about 2 wks, will let you know more later.

AS usual, the West Coast didn't get the same share of DX that I hear the East Coast got today.
Not like yesterday - anyway. It was really banging in here on the freeband.

But I did make a QSO with Dave 26 WR 001 in England.
Best part of it, is that he was in his mobile.

Congrats Dave, a new "World Radio"/DX Club member, and a great mobile contact at that!

Cool DX

Got up a little late today. Thought I was past the prime time for DX on the West Coast.

Was treated to some fine surprises:
14DA062/Eric/France
47PL122/Arne/Denmark
108AT144/George/Scotland
31SD107/Orlando/Portugal

Both Portugal and Denmark are a first time for me. Just beginning to get some of Europe recently.

This is Orlando's site from Portugal:

Arne/Denmark is going to send me a QSL card, here is what it looks like:

Similar here, further north of you on the leeward (east) side of the Rockies;

108AT031/Ian/Aberdeen, Scotland
14ZK020/Raymond/Paris, France
26WR001/David/Cornwall, England - 3 element beam on van.

Robb, regarding Orlando's site, there is a lot of data and graphs. Are you familiar with this data and could explain what one should be deciphering from it?

David is a new World Radio / DX club member. As I'm sure he let you know. I talked to him yesterday for the first time. First DX mobile contact for me.

AS far as Orlando's page goes, what stuff in particular are you referring to?
Most of it is used to monitor propagation qualities.
The trick at this point, is to be able to interpret that data!
