The FCC has approved a new AM only UNIDEN CB | eBay. In addition to a new LCD digital multi-color display, other features include WX band, an Alert function, talkback, and programmable memories.

Here are a few preview pictures, including the internals:

The multi-color display:

Of course, everyone wants to know what is inside. These are the only known inside pictures available.
This is the display panel front uncovered:

And, here is the rear of the front panel:

Here is the picture of the internals, which are all SMT:

And here is the backside of the main board:

A couple of notes:

The microphone will not be bluetooth and will not look like that.

The display colors will differ from what is shown in that image.

These images were basically taken from an internal document that was shared with some customers. The actual unit photo is accurate (but it is actually computer generated, not an actual product photo...for example, you'd never actually see all segments turned on like that).

We'll try to start getting some more accurate stuff out here for you to look at.

I think the most "accurate stuff" I'm looking for is frequency expansion info.

I imagine Uniden has taken steps to make conversion difficult, if not impossible. You appear to be intimate with this radios release and obviously know what inquiring minds are after.

So?

I am unable to comment on any unauthorized modifications.

I am guessing that it will be possible.

To survive in this hobby it'll need to be easily modifiable. People will ignore it for the most part if it can't be.

This info will become available soon anyways. If indeed, it is impossble or difficult to expand, the anticipation and excitement of it's release will quickly tank.

Just my take.

I hoped that they'll go for a detacheable front display....unfortunately its not the case.....

Early reports are that the receive on these new radios is better than the 68's and 78's.

Should have some of the new models on hand for testing shortly.

I've been advised by Uniden that the wireless mic that was shown was not accurate. There will be a wireless mic option sometime in 2012, but it won't look like the one that was shown. I've removed it from the original posting.
