This subject may have been beaten to death but here goes.
What does the frequency mod do to the radio, Will it go to 11 meter I dare say, and what damage to all of the other functions of the radio. Is it worth the price of maybe taking out the rig?
Thoughts.

Yes it will open up the TX, more than just 11 meter.

It does eliminate the automatic repeater offsets. It also eliminates the 60 meter channels pre-programed by the manufacturer but can always be programed in again. So it is not considered "damage" by any means.

As for the value of the mod, it depends on the user. Moleculo is a Navy/Marine M.A.R.S operator, so the value to him is high. Myself, I do not use the radio out of the ham bands, I have a CB for 11 meter so the value is not so much for me.

As for "taking out" the radio, no offense, but if a person "takes out" the radio doing the mod, they suck at soldering/desoldering.

Hi HH. It's been a very long time chatting with you. Good grief we have been here since the Charger days. How are you doing old man. hihi. Anyhow, Soldering is no problem but I was just wondering if it would be worth the trouble in doing the mod. I haven't even work with the mars units for 15 years. Say Hi to Mole for me. I did put the RCI2970 in the shack for grins and to play on the band a little. I guess there was a contest going on so I listened to 11 meter and all of the noise from that. Is there a frequency that the WWRF people hang out at?

Robert.

Good to see you have come back to hang around a bit.

I would not modify it since you already have a radio for 11 meter.

I do not have one HF rig in the shack modified for out of band any longer. I just found it more fun to use all the other bands available in the amateur band.

I am not saying 11 meter is no fun, I just enjoy what the stock HF rigs can do.

Yep same here I have a legal CB for CB none of my ham radios is modded for CB.

TO ME ......

Taking $800 all band radio even a IC-718 to use on CB is a bit of overkill
but to each his own .....
