Any FCC busts for DXing?

To anyone's knowledge, has anyone anywhere ever been busted for talking more than 150 miles / 250 km on a CB?

I'm not asking for hypotheticals here, or about using the range limit for a "pile it on charge" for a guy who's already breaking other laws. I'm asking if the FCC ever goes (or has gone after) some guy who's harmlessly working a little skip. Or is this something like a jaywalking law that hasn't been enforced in decades?

Have you been a Cber for less than 7 days?

From what I read, it is a low priority, and always has been.
Just like cops do, FCC inspectors use a lesser charge as probable cause to get a search warrant, looking for anything illegal. But, the only person I know that got a visit for shooting skip, was a guy running illeagal power. He was contacting the same person in Aculpoco on a regular basis, in the DC area.

Don't jaywalk in Columbus, Ohio. I got ticketed for it once.

I think it's implied when they send you the letter.

go to the FCC

web site, they have a bunch of them there...Its the cause for a inspection. And they get the Fed Marshals most of the time to visit you.Thats what they did by me in 1999.The guy was talking to someone in Fla.Later, the popped a guy down the road for talking on 27.445lsb They are out there, they one of theses days get John Denver on ch 28 and i would love to see his fine,hehe...73 de JW

CB radio is as big a priority as Border Security to our politicians.

Cool! Does that mean the DOJ is going to start giving us free guns?

BTW, the FCC site turned up 8 CB-related busts in the last two years. All were running amps or export radios. Most were warnings, one guy had to "voluntarily" destroy his amp, one got a $4000 fine, and another guy got a $10000 fine. Not a big-time enforcement effort, more like showing a presence.

To the original post, I haven't heard of that since the late seventies and early eighties. You can talk more than 150 miles without a lot of power. What's getting these headline people in trouble is malicious interference, usually running big power, but not necessarily. What's odd is they usually get many warnings "that they flat out ignore" before they get into deep trouble.

so true,

There was a few letters and calls in my area last year for them splattering on 28.380 from CB channel 28am...

Thanks K9GAS, Wrench, & a couple others. Kinda what I figured, kinda what the FCC site showed. And given the number of aircraft comms interference & bootleg FM station cases the FCC site listed, it looks like they're putting their efforts in the right places.

It's funny isn't it. Extra ticket hams can cause harmful interference on any frequency, I've heard it too many times. There's even a few on 38lsb that cause constant aggravation.
That Chester molester or whatever he calls himself is about to get his call sign announced on 38 by some local hams that are tired of him.
But a cb'er causes interference in the ten meter band, watch out!
I agree they should stop that, but ticket holders should stop as well.
Off the soap box now, :) enjoy the hobby and if you hear someone here in the states or china, go for it. If the conditions are good, that can happen well under cb radio watt limit or with power. ;) :)

Several years ago, sitting at one of the Indiana hospitals on break. I believe it was Dxman I heard and called to. We had a very short qso and I was running 100w I believe.
When I went back into the surgery department, it was a buzz with excited chatter about TW350 talking with a Larry on the west coast somewhere. I was all over the hospital intercom. You know that didn't happen again. I just said huh, there this thing called skip and it must have gotten in the system. Scared me enough to not transmit there again.

.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Rude operating practices and being somewhere you can't tramsmit legally are twe completely different things.

Remember the First Ammendment...you can cuss on the radio all you want and it's not illegal. A CB'er on 10 meters without the appropriate license is illegal.
