Yaesu FT-890 AT, what do I need to control this unit via computer?

Glad to hear. I'm pondering picking one up from a ham in the area myself. Looks like a decent radio, from everything I read. Not sure how the wife will feel about it though, lol.

Have two FT-890's and really like them. Good radio for the money they are going for these days. As for dealing with the wife, no begging here. All I have to do is point at her
$3500 sewing machine and all is quiet!! :)

I have a nice FT-990 the AC unit with a good working AT which I am considering trading for an equally nice FT-890AT(+cash or??) to better fit the camper.

I had an FT-900AT years ago and got great audio reports with the stock hand mic & Collins filter, but it got traded off and now I wish I still had it, but prefer the 890 analog meter version, I do.

Going to meet the seller today and see if I want to buy the 890 or not. Cross your fingers

Scratch that, the seller let me know that when he hooked up the radio yesterday to make sure it worked right, the autotuner decided to not work. This am it worked again, but a little later it stopped. At least he was honest about the problem. He has another one without autotune, but he's not asking for much less, and if I want a tuner, I would need to buy that seperate.

Internal Auto Tuners are nice. But, few will handle much of a miss-match.
Most internal tuners with the exception of the TenTec Jupiter, will only handle
a 3:1 SWR with little problems. Some will do more.
Better to use an external tuner (I have both auto and manual tuners, but, prefer
a manual tuner as it has a much broader matching range than the auto tuners I have).
If the radio without the internal auto tuner is a good one, and at a good price, I would say go for it. IF you like it and it meets the rest of your needs.
