Check out this neat QRP 40 meter SSB kit from crkits.com:

This neat little transceiver is available as a kit for $115 or $155 assembled (plus shipping). An optional mic is $20 and internal speaker is $4.

It draws only about 2 amps in TX, making it a neat choice for hiking or field operation on batteries. The tuning range is about 20khz, available in 5 different frequency choices.

I've attached the complete brochure. Pretty neat!

I wished Icom still made the 703 which was all band HF but only QRP power (10 watts pep) on ssb, also another good QRP rig is the SG-2020 ADSP2 Transceiver which only has SSB and CW, LSB & USB, No AM mode

i dont want a lot of power, i refuse to use more than a stock radio, (10 to 100 watts)

I like most Icom radio's..
That is Except for the IC-703
Perhaps they had the issues taken care of..However i know a few people who had problems with them

Most interesting... I wonder if the IF is broadbanded enough to switch in different xtals for different band segments? Has potential as a portable/mobile AFSK rig. I'm assuming LSB only?

I like the 8 pin mic jack is labeled phones. LMAO.
VXO controlled just like the Ten-Tec 13XX series, probably uses the same cheap varactors. Should be nice and drifty like a good old 1011D.

You'll have to wind a few torroids to get in the correct band segment, so I'm betting you'll have to pick your spot wisely.

Unless you plan to run an amp I'd say set it up for the QRP segment which is 7.285MC (y)
