if you do not know the seller just remember "Caveat Emptor" (buyer beware)

it could be anything, it might be a decent radio in need of a little TLC (an hour on the workbench and its as good as new), or you could get some broken junk that was used as a guinea pig by an armchair hack of a technician and the radio is fried beyond repair, when you buy unknown products as used by an unknown seller it will always be a roll of the dice

Well...

He can't test it because the power switch is broken. Probably doesn't want to fidget with it.

That's not off the mark at all with a lot of eBay sellers. I recently bought a nice looking 148GTL from a guy who deals heavily with CB gear. Sold it as a tech special because it transmitted one channel above receive. Said he was not a tech and did not know anything about it other than that, I'm glad he did not because it saved me a ton of money.

Some Golden Screwdriver tried to open the clarifier and really screwed the pooch.

Took me ten minutes to fix that and redo the botched channel mod.
Here locally we have a lot of Craigslist zombies that pounce on CB and Ham gear looking for that once in a lifetime buy and strike it ritch on eBay.

There's one guy I've seen on there alot and he also has a ebay store and the name of his store is xxx CB Shop. Certainly implying that he is running an actual CB shop yet he too posts all kinds of radios as tech specials and "doesn't know anything about them" etc....and that kind of crap. Makes ya wonder

I love the guys who will post an ad, show the radio on a bench with an O-scope, a spectrum analyzer, freq counter, and other test gear in the back ground, AND claim to not know much about the radio!

so here is a real winner, he says sold for parts as he has no way to test the item, YET if you check his feedback it's all buying and selling CB radios... can you say RED flag

galaxy dx88hl | eBay

Just covering their ass so they do not have to return your money....or dishonest buyers trying to get something for nothing.

Yea...the auction picture with all that equipment in the background and the seller says he's "unable to test" so selling as-is. I run like the wind from those auctions.

You know that doesn't seem to matter anymore. I think ebay changed policy again and even items listed as For Parts or Not Working are tagged with "covered by ebay buyer protection."

So maybe you can force a return of any non working junk now.

I'll buy non working junk for parts, I just want the seller to be forthcoming.
Years ago I sold a 2M Yaesu all mode that the VFO would not lock on. I listed it just as it was and someone still paid $90 for it.

Yep....if it sez non working and you buy it.....then I do not see why it would be covered.....but if it sez "Used" and working...but does not work when you get it....then you deserve to get your $$ back. :)

I like the dudes that post a popular style of radio and sell it as is, or untested and sold for parts, but they'll put a big BIN or a high reserve price.

They warn you it may not work, but yet, place a "working" price on it.

TOOLS!

So ... what is the Problem ??? If you're trying to sell something, you want to get the most $$$ for it, without misrepresenting what it is. As a buyer, you need to read between the lines and determine what it REALLY is and what it's worth to you. It's just a game of give and take, and if you can't play the game ... well that's your problem.

You and I are obviously worlds apart.

When I sell something, I am not looking to get the most out of it that I can. I will ask a fair price based on what I feel it's worth. I have plenty of experience reading between the lines. I can also spot a greedy ass f**k a mile away.

You can buy and sell your trinkets as you see fit, It's no business of mine.

If I can't test or verify an item is working or not, I'll price it accordingly and not make it a crap shoot. I surely will not put a "working" price on it.

IAW, when you buy something from me, you won't get hosed, and I won't shake your hand with a smirk knowing I just ripped you off.
