Rci-2950 Old Style-Vs.-Rci-2950dx

Hey there Tripple 5, I think Booty Monster beat me to it. However I can tell you that I did get a chance to test a 2950 with a fresh alignment against a 2950dx with a fresh alignment, and while no one could tell the difference on TX, the RX was the big difference that I noticed. Also the stock mic that comes with it is a great little mic, I think it is a 40-$50 mic if you purchase it new, SO that is a nice bonus for sure.

They are both good radios. But the DX is great. I would never pay more than $125 shipped and insured to my door for a 2950(but in that price range the HR2510 reins supreme) So really I guess since a new 2950dx is only $240-260 you might as well save a few extra pennies. PLUS the warranty you get with the DX is worth it

So to sum it up Pro and Cons:

2950 (NON DX)

PROS:
1.) Cheaper than the DX, but that is because it is USED
2.) decent freq coverage

CONS:
1.) Hard to see the display in the light
2.) no warranty (because it's a used rig)
3.) noisy receive

2950DX

PROS:
1.) easier to see in direct sunlight than the NON DX model
2.) better freq coverage than the NON DX model
3.) cleaner receive than the NON DX model
4.) Finals are cheaper to replace (IRF520)
5.) Warranty is available (if it's a new radio)

CONS:
1.) Cost more than the NON DX model

Good information. Also when the 2950DX first came out they were dual 1969 final radio's. This has obviously changed with most every radio now. I have also heard there are some parts with the old orange models that are no longer made. Something like the processor or cpu, can't remember. So if this goes out your done. The 2950DX radio's are all surface mount board radio's as well.

I could have sworn it was irf520

You probably looked at one of the later production runs after they switched to IRF 520 finals and the TDA 2003 Audio Chip.

The Early Serial numbers all used 2sc 2312`s and the original TA7222AP Audio Chip. I am to lazy to go un-mount the radio from my pickup and take a picture.
Here is the Schemo from Ranger on the early ones.

My 6900 F25 runs dual 2312`s as well.
I do not remember seeing one with 1969`s but it is possible.

My bad, probably was 2312's. I just wanted to make the point that the green DX radio's were not always mosfets. Heck the first run of the green 2970DX had the monster size heat sink even.

Never confirmed... but I heard that the early versions were sought after by folks south of the border because they could modify the factory single roger beep to a multiple stutter beep or jackhammer style roger beep. Sounds freaky, probably not true.

Only down side I see is that they do not have the appearance of a typical standard CB radio of years past. I have a few of each vintage and like them all (y)

I just picked up a 2950dx used and it has dual 1969 finals. Only issue this one has is the audio coming through the speaker or speaker jack on rear sounds garbled. Any ideas?
Other than that everything works and transmits great. the board is a EPT695014B
