This radio was discontinued many years ago, nothing new or interesting. It died long time before the ROHS directive would have made it obsolete.

Soooo . . . They re-branded it by giving it a new face plate just to sell off the remaining supply.

What a disappointment this radio will be for those who wanted a decent AM radio with echo.
The AM performance from this chassis design is poor at best; and adding echo isn't going to help it out diddly-squat.

Don't buy it!
There is NO WARRANTY FROM THE MFR!

It looks very much like the Ranger RG-99, someone needs to see what final is being used in that one.

Never seen the RG-99. I understand that it had great audio (according to DTB Radio) and had two audio IC's. But if you look at the underside picture of this chassis, it looks the very same as the Ranger SuperStar JA. No different. Sooo, that means the final would be the MRF-477; unless they pulled it out and put in a 2SC1957 or a 2SC1969. But I doubt that; they would have taken the large heat sink off.

I smell a scam here. I tried to call Chip @ Ranger twice today with no response either time. Think they are rooting/hiding over there because of the warranty issue. Very poor way to do business. I've given them more than four weeks and change to give me a straight answer.

Hey Ranger/RCI; I'm going to keep calling until you answer the phone and own up to this radio - one way or another . . .

It is an obomination.

If they weren't involved, they'd be quick to deny any part in this SCAM. I've been thinking of doing a charge back. I mean, come on, I was sold an old antique passed off as new.

They have blown all my emails off.

I looked at the face and looks like you lose the pa function. it was with the squelch knob.
just looked at back and not pa jack. taped over

Are you calling the right number? You are calling radioshop supply?.....Right?

I haven't had any trouble getting ahold of them. They don't carry "all" of the parts for the rangers. just specialized ones. like most of the smd components you would have to get them in quanity to get them from them. Your better off getting them from mouser or digi-key.

i had 2 of these old school superstar -33`s with the dual modulation transformers and i gotta say i was rather depressed with the modulation .maybe dtb knows a secret to getting the modulation but cranking the mod pot didnt do it for me .i eventually sold them both .
i did have inside pics but imageshack ate them

if i can track them down i will post them .i did love the old school look though .
