About a week ago, Brick O'Lore alerted me to the fact that many people have discovered that the little TYT TH-UV3r can do 220Mhz in addition to the standard 2m/440. Enabling this feature requires the use of the programming cable and software and is simply enabled by checking the 220 band in the setup menu and entering the desired range:

I tested this tonight and it worked! Unfortunately my battery was nearly dead so I couldn't give the radio a good power test, but I'll post that info tomorrow.

This is cool - one of my favorite little radios now does 144/220/440 mhz!

you might want to keep what revision of the UV3R you got under wraps. Back when I was shopping for an HT I was reading up on the UV3R and found out it could display freq in 1.25cm but no TX or RX, and read another report where it would TX but somewhere around 5mW!
I am not the least surprised they would make one radio for all and then disable either 220 or 440 depending on which model it was sold as. Once the word gets out I would expect vendors to begin marketing such UV3R as a tri-band and doubling the price.

I finally had time to test out the power output after the battery charged. It does the same output on 220 as it does on 144 and 440. My radio does a little over 1 watt on 220 and 440 and about 1.5 watt on 144 with a fully charged battery.
