I wonder why they would do that instead of using the Ranger sra158 which is arguably one of the best stock hand mics ever made?

Wouldn't know. I sent DTB Radio a email asking about this radio. I'm thinking,"why would Ranger put a freq display/counter on a cb radio unless it could be modded for extra freqs.
Here's a pic of the mic for it.

I think this radio's been out for a while. Some web stores show that it's discontinued

Copper Electronics replied to my email saying that yes,they(TRE-936FFC) are new but with no warranty

Well,I received my Ranger TRE-936ffc Elite that I purchased from Copper Electronics only because DTB Radio didn't stock it. It came in a well oversized box(40lbs. 3/8" diced green chili pepper box)with lots of padding and two of their catalogs(one for a friend?). The 936's box is sealed at both ends with self adhesive labels saying,'Defective radios are to be returned to manufacturer. See inside for details'. This is evidently a brand new radio. It's all chrome with extra mini bubble wrap around the radio on top of the plastics bag it come wrapped in. The mounting bracket is chrome as well. Looking at the back of the radio,I see,'Made in China'( :( ). It's got a all blue display.
So,a 40 channel am cb radio with a six digit frequency display. Can anybody say,'extra channels?'.
Also,I ordered the L3S-3B channel kit from LesCom. Lester's Custom Truck Shop - LesComm Products
I emailed DTB about installing the LesCom kit in my 936. He says he can and that he's had no problems with LesCom products. Also,I contacted Lester at LesCom if the L3S-3B will go in the 936 and the Galaxy DX-959. He says that the L3S-3B works great in both radios.

Too pretty to get smudged up. The owner's manual says that this radio works best in a base station setting. "This transceiver is specifically designed for the environment emcountered in base installations."

Note: the iPhone camera doesn't do the blue LEDs justice. It's so much more blue and brighter.
 I had the display on dim

Warranty seal

This radio has a warranty seal on the side. Does this look like something Copper does or Ranger? Plus it has a tiny nick scratch on the top case.

Note: the talkback can't be turned off. Looks like an opportunity to replace the pot with one that includes a switch.
Or put my TRBX2 in. :)

I'm thinking that I can get some regular radio cases and store the 936's mirror finish chrome cases in the radio's box. The freqq counter reads on channel 28,27.2850 on RX and 27.2851 on TX. DTB's going to get his chance to get this baby up and running. I don't know all what the LesCom board entails as far as the user controls but there's plenty of buttons to choose from. The LesCom board does require that X3 is replaced with one that's included with the kit.

The TRE-936ffc is touted as having one of the quietest receive along with good sensitivity. I've been testing it especially in town. There's usually 7 a-units worth of static in town on account of these businesses. I just talked to my brother five away with my rf gain turned 2/3 the way down and the squelch turned just enough to cut off the noise yet I could hear and have a conversation with him. Hmmmm, nice receive without the noise and it hasn't been tuned yet.

There will be a switch to turn off the talkback as I can't turn up my Road Devil much without getting feedback. Here's a forum link on this radio.

I'll keep posting updates. I did find out by reading threads on this forum that this is a Galaxy DX-959 board wise without the SSB. Maybe I can mount a 959 talkback dual control pot where the talkback is in order to switch off the tailback. I'll get DTB to do that one. So it ain't got SSB. Oh well. I got SSB radios to handle that.
