Van Ordt

this antenna:

In 1981, the innovative Van Ordt antenna company took a step outside the box and introduced the “Audio King” antenna. For the first time, we could actually see the coil inside a clear plastic cover. And, as if it wasn’t different enough to use clear plastic for the coil cover, Van Ordt also filled the coil enclosure with oil, which was intended to help keep the coil wire itself cool when running higher than legal power. You would be proud to own a set of Audio Kings, and your friends would be talking about them on the radio because at the time, these antennas left a lasting visual impression with their unusual wow factor.

Yes I am told that was a decent performer. The Quad Wrap Fiberlgass Antenna's were also well made. Blast from the past !

Google thinks they are still in business in Ontario California. Look them up and call the phone number listed and see if they answer.

"Users claim up to 30% better performance than other top line antennas"

Is that a wild antenna claim? Jeez, who'd of thunk it!

The oil coil audio king had a low Q and so does their power stick, great antennas and they still make them but are sold only through dealers..I had an audio king back in the 80's and one thing I remember is super low VSWR vs frequency when tuned at midband..and virtually no static or road noise while driving..you had to look down occasionally thinking that your squelch was up too high + they'd handle about any power you could crank into them

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Q increase as the load moves up closer towards the center of the antenna? It definitely Narrows the bandwidth substantially, as well as greatly increasing the efficiency of the antenna.

Back in the early 80's we had an oil filled antenna sold here that looked very much like the AudioKing,

i just had to try one, vswr bandwidth was poor, performance was nothing special even compared to a much less expensive valor 520 half breed,

they reminded me of the hype surrounding the original k40 in how a handfull of people raved about them but in ALL our tests they came out bottom of the pile,

could it be the same oil filled antenna?
