I am going to order an end fed soon and I wanted to check with the forum first. I saw that Tallman likes the qso-king, but it seems more expensive than most.

I am only planing to run 100 watts on this. Are there any differences or anything else I should know before I order?

I've heard of a lot of guys running the EARCHI end fed. It is around 50 bucks, and is set up to use your coax shield as counterpoise. Really considering one for my go-box project, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. You might want to check out Balun Designs web site. Bob Rumsey makes some great baluns/ununs with high power ratings, and they aren't that expensive. Use your own wire, of course, and the baluns are somewhat heavy too, which "literally" weighs in on my decision for a go box solution.

Dang, I looked up the Balun designs website, but they have 4:1 and 9:1. I really don't know what I would want right now.

I just want to get on the air and start studying up on antennas. Planning to start with the arrl antenna book.

Man, 160... I only dream of it. lol Take a look here:
http://www.balundesigns.com/content/Wire Lengths for 4 and 9-1 ununs.pdf

There is other stuff out there, but I am personally running a 4:1 for my delta loop, and a 9:1 for an end fed that gets me to 80 meters. Both seem to work really well, and I usually push about 500-600 watts through them. And yes, I use a tuner. :)

You can email him an ask his recommendations... he's a really cool guy.

But you can get down to 160 M with no problem. The wire that comes off of the 9:1 balun does not have to be one straight run. You can zigzag it or run it in the attic if you have HOA problems. If it cost 20.00 dollars more but it works as advertised is worth it right? Read the reviews on the other one, mentioned it as a big mistake. Mine has been up for over 4 1/2 years with no problems at all.

What is the "other" one, balundesigns.com? I couldn't find any place to buy the qso-king, or any info on it. Am I just missing something?

I can't find an LNR endfedz that says it covers 160.

There's not one. On another note, QSO-King has an eham rating of 4.9 with 34 reviews. The End Fedz have a 4.9 rating with 287 reviews and were designed by Dale Parfitt of Par Electronics, one of the most respected men in the business. Not sure why they are "a big mistake", but am not going to argue with Tallman as he has helped me a bunch through the years.
