Default VX-8R Beep while receiving

I've noticed that while receiving (no signals received),
that the VX8 will send out a beep... actually, I think it's
a pair of beeps.

Is this a battery low indication? I've looked through the
book, but can't find any reference to it.

I haven't noted the time between when it does it, but
seems that if it is a battery low indication, it would
happen more often. (most radios that I use have battery
low indicators, and once they start beeping, they generally
don't stop until a new battery or put in the charger).

Just curious.

Thanks,

Tim W5FN

Are you sure you don't have ARTS turned on?

Checked #5, and ARTS beep was 'in range',
but here in the boonies, there aren't any ARTS
enabled radios.

Turned it off. Will see if the beep goes away!

Thanks,

Tim

Ha! That is what the other guy is probably thinking too!

To clarify, the beeping is coming from the speaker just while receiving and not while transmitting? Does it sound like the keypad beeps when entering in frequency or a different beep?
