thats the only meter i have , i also have a multi meter . . but like i said the newer 29 i have seams to be working as far as the swr meter , but still doesn't seam to be getting out past 7 miles .. the only thing done to this radio is the ( d 11 ) has been cut ( whats that do anyways ? ) . i believe the guy that sold me the radio tested it . and said that the radio is putting out 5 watts ........

the other radio still wont adjust for swr ,, i used the new radio to set the swr on the Mobil and in the house ,, then just usd both radios ,,,

anouther question , in the ( 29 ltd mods ) section on some sights it says to cut d-11 , or adjust f4 .. as i stated above the new and old radio both have had the d-11 circut cut ... but i have read on some sights that its not good to cut the d-11 ... maybe when i learn what that circut is or wat cutting it does i will understand a bit more

also talking to a few locals last night , and they said sence i live right on top of the interstate that there will be alot of signals bouncing around near me , and that alot of people run power now and that if i want good distance and recieve , then i need to get some extra power ?
but im not trying to talk 100 miles or anything, but i would like to get out of 7 miles....

Oh now you're getting into a whole different topic There is a bunch of information on Cobra 29 mods in our Modifications section. But unless you know what you're doing and have the right equipment to do it, you shouldn't be doing it Cutting d11 disables the "modulation limiter". VR4 is the adjustment for the modulation limiter. Instead of disabling it completely by cutting it, it's much better to just adjust it. Without going into a ton of detail, disabling / cutting the limiter makes your radio "splatter" to adjacent channels and also makes the audio sound, well...like splatter...especially when the mic gain is too high.

If you really want the thing to be powerful and loud without a ton of distortion, try one of the mods listed on the site, or send it to someone that can do it for you. Be prepared to spend a few bucks if you send it off.

It is sad but that is the way a lot of folks do it by turning every screw or doing every mod they can find on the net to squeeze one last watt out of the radio to make the meter move. I'll take a clean, crisp sounding radio any day over one of the splattering, un-understandable POS's you hear now a days.
