Default Question VX-8R capability

Next question, does this radio transmit AM on aircraft band (122.900) as does the VX-7R?

Default vx8r mars/cap mod.

Thanks for the info so far on the reset and loss of memory. I guess my main concern is that ALL default (factory) menu items are lost. I don't mind losing the freq.'s I have programed I just don't relish the idea of having to go to 100+ menu items for reprograming. Is this what you have to do?

No, it doesn't

On mine, the radio just got set back to the default, as it was when I first took it out of the box. All of the pre-programmed VHF Marine, SWL, and other special memories were preserved.

Smile VX-8R tx.range after the mod.

Does any one know the tx. range after the mod? I am interested in the 503-512 Mhz. range. Thanks. Plato:

Default No FRS Yikes!

It's increadibly frustrating that I can't even use my vx-8r to talk with my kids on their frs radios.

If you do the mod you can. FRS is on 462 and 467Mhz. The mod allows TX up to 470Mhz.

Remember, some FRS radios display the CTCSS tones as "sub channels", i.e. 1-3, where channel 1 = 462.5625 Mhz on every FRS radio but the -3 is going to be some CTCSS tone that you'll have to look in their manual for. Those "sub channels" aren't the same tone from one manufacturer to the other, either.

Default Scrape Away Option

Yep! It works.

I grabed the resistor with the tweezers and it crumbled. No hot iron required!

I would say it was designed to be a scrape-away option.

All systems go.
