This appears to be a mystery radio. Perhaps I was the only one foolish enough to buy one! Hi Hi!

I don't recall where I saw the mod, but when you remove the little rubber plug under the battery there is one resistor visible. Remove it, reset the radio and the TX is expanded.

Anyone figured out the MARS mod for this radio?

No and I'm glad I didn't. someone on the Yahoo group did and it bricks the radio!

I just received confirmation from the Yahoo group that the resistor location is reversed from the US vs EU units and removal of the resistor on the left on the US units will brick the unit.

Thanks for the info and advice! I decided on the VX-7R and found one on ebay for a pretty good deal. I think the dual VFO was the main selling point for me.
