I have been a ham since 1976 and I don't know why other hams think they are God's gift to mankind. Listen on 14.208 and you will hear a bunch I think from Texas and Ark. that will not acknowledge you and if they see you are a recent ham they will bash the hell out of you. Personally I don't...
I bought an old Dictaphone off eBay and paid 10.00 dollars for it and the foot switch used to operate the recorder worked great. Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dictaphone-Foot-Pedal-0502765-not-tested-/182588777263?hash=item2a8323a32f:g:~tYAAOSwAPVZJIqy
I have been meaning to post this photo for some time so others can see what I have at my operating station. This is not all of the gear if you go to my web site at http://www.kg0mn.com you can see the remainder of the gear.

I can never take this type of electronics seriously when people call transistors - pills. I would be like me deciding it would be cool to call "watts" - "mashed potatoes".
The first radio I used as a ham in 1975 and went on to work 205 countries with it, but that was on hell of a great sun spot cycle to boot. For the time they were a great little rig and the only drawback now is 8950 tube that it use is hard to get and expensive.
I got my new 7600 just 5 days ago and I could not be happier with it. I have compared it to the TS-590SG and FT-950 in a side by side test and 7600 is the clear winner. The display is nothing short of amazing and with the added ability of being able to decode RTTY and PSK without any other...
The ham wife and I make the yearly 705 mile trip again this year. I just love going through the flea market looking for boat anchors so that I can flip them and sell them hopefully for a profit.
I picked this Drakes up for $400.00 last year and the transmitter was dead. I have since...
My concern would be that the Amazon PSU would only put out the 12Volts as advertised and not the 13.8 volts most power supplies put out. Does it have a means of varying the voltage?

I will try to remember to take a pic of the iron my Father-in-law gave me. The 4-sided tip is about 3/4" across in all four directions and it gets so hot it is scarey.
If you do not mute the receiver, you will very rapidly find out that your transmitter smoked the front it of it. See if you can find an old Heathkit Mohawk RX-1 which matches the Heathkit Apache transmitter. Then you can use the Dowkey the way it was intended to. The big reason being the 300...
Here is my input on your question. I owned one of the Flex SDR rigs and while it did have a nice receive and did everything one would want I missed the knobs, bells and whistles. I traded it for a Drake C-line. I then decided I would go with a real radio/SDR setup, that being a Yaseu FT-950...
Wow a guy goes into the the hospital after a huge heart attack and then a quad-bypass surgery and I come to find out that my favorite forum has changed its overall appearance and style. While I appreciate the work and effort put forth to achieve the new look, I have to admit the older style was...
Hi - I have had decent results using Ham Radio Deluxe and then in turn using Skype for the audio. It works alright but the least bit of net congestion can affect the conversation by adding missed words or parts of sentences.
