    Digital scanner

Might as well buy a digital scanner now and save your money in the future because there will never be a scanner produced that will decode digital encryption. It would take a high speed computer 30,000 years to decode an active P25 encryption key... and that key can be changed throughout the...

    help with a scanner purchase.

Yep... I just bought an iPod Touch 4g and a Monster bluetooth stereo speaker unit and listen to all kinds of scanner feeds via wifi. The entire setup is small enough to fit in the palm of my hand and works great!

    help with a scanner purchase.

Living in the Chicago area you're going to want to monitor the StarCom21 system which is P25 Digital. Most everything around Chicago and Cook County run on it. You'll need a digital scanner like the Radio Shack PRO-106 or PRO-197. A "fancy" digital scanner like the Uniden Home Patrol would make...

    Trunking

For a trunking scanner like the PRO-94... you're going to enter all of the freqs that the trunking system uses into it. The scanner will automatically lock on to the control freq. When the control freq handles a transmission, it will jump to the freq that's being used and display the talkgroup...

    Pulled from the shelf

They were pulled due to possible firmware problems. Radio Shack corporate required "company" owned stores to return their stock for firmware upgrades. "Franchise" stores were not affected and were allowed to sell existing stock. The problem is now resolved and they're back on the shelves...

Sony 2010 in very nice shape

I see them quite often at hamfests and radio swaps for $200 or less. The ones for $200 are usually in the box with original accessories. People will happily pay $300+ for them and if that's the only one you've seen, I'd say go for it... but you can find them for much less if you know where to...

    HS 200RE hand held scanner?

Looks like this scanner dates back to 1996 or so? Might be OK to use as intended for NASCAR races and found cheap enough... but you really want to go digital in this day and age if you want to monitor public services. Most metropolitan areas... at minimum... use analog trunking systems and even...

got an ole cobra 139 base.

First off, remove the case and spray all of the switches and controls... and especially the channel selector... with a good dose of electrical contact cleaner. You can buy a large aerosol can for about 10 bucks at Radio Shack. If you're buying old CBs that haven't been fired up in years, the...

    Can't run a power mic!

Have you tried any Turner mics... like the +2 or +3? I've not had good luck with Astatic power mics like the D104. They always want to squeal unless turned down real low, but I rarely can get a Turner mic to squeal regardless of the setting. Also... does your radio have talkback? Power mics...

    Galaxy saturn

So is the hum gone after you fixed the coax connection? If not, hook the Saturn up via DC to a DC power supply (10 amp or more) and see if the hum exists. If it's gone, then the AC filter caps need replaced. Chances are that's the underlying problem. Peaking and tuning Galaxy bases well...

    Uniden SSB base

Hey AudioShockwav... how well does that Turner Expander 500 mic work with that Madison? I just picked one up a few weeks ago and have it working really well with my Galaxy 2547. Most of the reviews I've read about them are negative due to being super sensitive. Mine will produce close to 100%...

    My $50 Score!

I had a chance to buy two HR2510's for $40 each at a hamfest last weekend missing power cords and mics. Seller said they had great receive, but transmit was untested. Would have bought one, but my recent "bad luck" streak buying used radios that don't perform as promised kept me from taking the...

    Montgomery Ward Gen 719

You got one fine radio there. I ought to know... I sold it to ya! Really hated to see it go, but I'm thrilled it went to someone who will really appreciate it as much as I did. Also... I gotta pay for this new DX2547 base somehow

    Cb radio operators

Are you the "Triple Nickel" that used to drive though Joplin on I-44 during the evenings and call out for the "Speakerman" on 19 back when he was selling up this way? If so, I used to hear you all the time. QUOTE=triple nickel;319801]Hey SmackDown, I run just 3 States now, Due top my Wife's...

    The lullaby on channel 17

I've been hearing it here in southern Missouri for a few weeks now... usually late afternoon. Very strong signal. Posters on various CB forums have been complaining about it and they all say it must be someone running serious power.

    Hello from the Ozarks

Did you buy the Cobra 2000? If that's the 2000 that Jim at Hood's has sitting on his counter, you're getting a great radio and he is an awesome tech! I've bought numerous stuff from him over the years and have "drooled" over that 2000 several times, but just couldn't part with that much cash. As...

    what's it worth?

The TRC-458 should bring $150 or so on Ebay if really nice and loaded up as you describe. I sold a very nice 142GTL for $30 recently and was disappointed to find it selling so low. I'd guess a parts 142GTL might be worth $5 or $10?

FS: Astatic Silver Eagle Mic - $55 shipped

For Sale: Astatic D-104 Silver Eagle base mic. Working condition unknown. Bought this a few months ago at a hamfest and the seller said it works fine and he used it with a Drake TR4C... but I have not verified operation. Chrome shows significant pitting, but cleans and shines up nicely...

    Wards 702

Not necessarily true. Don't know how many 70's era base and mobile radios I've saved from going to the landfill that worked like new as found. All of the CB manufacturers made their stuff to last back in that era. If anything, it's the 90's and later stuff that I pick up that seems to have the...
