Uh oh, thats not good. Now that you mention it, the 820pf output cap I put on was what another member said to put on. I didn't know if it was correct or not. Maybe the cap is the wrong value? Or maybe its the loose cap I found....
I've got a Galaxy 225 amp which is a Palomar 225 clone. When I bought it the compensator cap on the output transformer was missing and a feedback resistor had broken solder. After soldering the resistor down and replacing the 820pf cap, the amp now has a weird problem
It never worked right...
Eh, I was not impressed with this antenna. It is almost unusable. Read my review/rant:

The noise limiter on my old Uniden 510XL was called an ANL: Automatic Noise Limiter. It only helped to remove white noise and engine ignition noise out of the background but the squelch was the same with ANL on or off. The cobra 19 might be labeled as "touchy" only because it has a sensitive...
Hey there. I remember my first cb and the fun I had when I first got a response. Depending on your area or who's on the air, you may or may not get a contact for a while. Usually base station guys will be nicer and more willing to talk to you versus truckers, they can be quite nasty sometimes...
I too have read this article. Seems pretty interesting and informative. The ratio of modulation to carrier should be about 2:1 on a watt meter. So for every watt of carrier you need 2 watts of swing. This should equal about the right amount modulation. Anything more will just add to distortion...
That would work too. If you cut the trace instead of removing the resistor, then you could easily re-solder the trace, and un-mod the radio if need be.
Correct there is no gain control. The next model up has one, though I can't recall the name of it, but is the ultra III plus a gain control. The receive is pretty touchy, I don't even need to use the preamp on my kicker.
moleculo: This radio hands down can take more beating than any other radio I've owned or have had a chance to look at. I would go so far as to say its shock proof as well. Its been dropped way too many times and still works great.
I've used it near and in water and its still holding...
From another source:
* 1- Remove the battery and the caution seal (sometimes a thin black cover) underneath the battery inside the battery compartment. This cover has a small trimmed corner with which to pry it off from, and the cover is adhesive.
* 2- Find the two surface mount...
This is a review for a K30 antenna mag mount
K40 Antennas & Accessories :: K30 Magnet Mount Antenna
I wanted to pick up a cheap mag mount antenna for a last minute trip that wouldn't break my wallet and perform awesome. What was I thinking.
Let me be the first to tell you: I got what I payed...
Heres a review of the Cobra 19 Ultra III.
Its an awesome compact little radio for a great price. I have one in my collection and it fits perfectly in the small space below my CD player in my truck. I picked up this radio at the last minute when I was taking a road trip and the primary goal was...
I'd like to talk about this great little radio a bit. Its the first amateur radio I bought since getting my basic license.
Its a great, compact radio with many features. It has selectable power output from a quarter watt, 2 watts, and 5 watts, which allows for extended operation. I have...
Ok, the caps are in the mail. The only thing I'm REALLY worried about is frying my amp. It does take MRF455 and NOT SD1446. Since mackmobile43 said that different transistors require different value caps for compensation I'm worried that 820pf would be the wrong one.
Even though they are...
Once again, thanks everyone for your help. I'm going to pick up a few of these caps when I get back to the house. I'll solder them in the spot where the old used to be and fix that feedback resistor.
Hopefully I don't fry anything
I'll let everyone know how it went.
So is this...
Well looking at the picture of the other palomar, the cap appears to be 820pf, 5% tolerance, rated for 500 volts DC.
Is this correct for my amp? Would this cap work?
DM19FD821JO3: 820pF 500V Dipped Mica Capacitor
Correct. My amp takes MRF455's. Ok so I'll get ad brown square 820pf cap. So am I correct in thinking the cap needs soldering on the top of the transformer in my picture? Also can I fry anything if I'm wrong? I'm trying to locate the correct cap at the moment with no luck so far so any help...
Thanks for the replies guys! So its good to hear this amp is fixable. Now that you mention it, it does look like it fried off and the previous owner just threw it away.
Since this amp is a Galaxy and not a Palomar, is the 820p capacitor the right one? If I get the wrong capacitor, could I run...
