How do I get a Yaesu 857d to do computer controlled CW?

The key here (no pun intended) is to use separate COM ports for rig control and digital PTT. I use an RTSystems USB-62 for CAT/RIG Control, which shows up as COM3 in Windows Device Manager, and this is set up in the main HRD program. I use a West Mountain Radio Plug & Play RIGblaster, which...

    Yaesu FT-847 refresh

Dear Yaesu; I am kinda of new to the ham hobby, (but not new to radio) and I seemed to have missed somthing. ICOM has an HF/VHF/UHF all mode unit for the base. Kenwood has one too. You used to have one, in the FT-847 model. So why don't you dust off those old FT-847 plans, maybe...

    Satellite Footprint Formula

No, I did not. This is a theoretical maximum. In fact if you look at a satellite like DirecTV, the radiation pattern of an antenna like a dish can choke the footprint dramatically. Great point, Craig!

    Satellite Footprint Formula

OK, I found the answer. It took a while, and CK's post was the "lightbulb" that helped me work through it. Consider this situation: A satellite at point B is at a height of c2 above the earth, with a radius of c1. (OK, OK, the earth is not a perfect sphere, but let's assume for the moment it...

    Satellite Footprint Formula

Does anyone know a formula I could use to determine the maximum possible footprint of a satellite at a given height? It's just for kicks mostly, but I'd like to find out how far one could get with a repeater connected to a balloon. So what is the formula to find the length of arc AB given...

    BEST & WORST RIGS(HAM/CB RADIO)

For CB, I think the worst Radio I had was a Teaberry SSB unit (Can't remember the model number), I did not have it for long, somebody released me of it! Thank God for favors! The only think I did not like about my Johnson Whiteface was it was only 5 Channels, so life was better when I...
