RCI-2995dx lo AM power = 0.3 watt with no mod, 40 watts with mod.

A friend brought me his brand new defective radio to repair. ( 2 months old ) He lives in Canada, and dont want to ship it back to the US seller. I get 110 watts in SSB when whistling in the mike. Is this a common problem ??? Can someone help me with this problem ??? Thanks
