Trying to decide on which one to get and from who

There are more things about the 257 that I don't like, than I like. The Freq counter which is really only actually a freq display, serves very little purpose.

Trying to decide on which one to get and from who

I have narrowed my mobile choice down to a Galaxy 98VHP, Ranger 69FFC2, Ranger 2970N2 or a Magnum 257. I'm also open to another radios to include on the list but it must have a freq counter built in but for now I'm only interesetd in these 4. One thing I like about the Magnum is I can...

Anyone have info on the Courier Galaxy?

I saw the pic but it didn't really ring a bell. The only thing that I kinda remember about it by looking at that pic was maybe the USB, LSB and AM LED's. Was that the only 40 channel model SSB mobile radio Courier/Galaxy did? If so, then I guess that's the same one I had too.

    My SWR's are weird

The best I have been able to get the reading now with the MM9 is 1.6 on 40 and 1.7 on channel 1. That is with it still mounted behind the cab. I think that's about as good as it's gonna get mounted there. Right now I'm using 9 or 12 feet of coax. I picked up some 18 foot stuff, so I will...

Anyone have info on the Courier Galaxy?

I had a Fanon Courier Galaxy SSB radio back around 1990. It was only my second radio but for the life of me I can't even remember what it looked like. I wouldn't know it, even if I saw it. I was using a Sadelta power/echo mic with it and everybody said I was loud as hell. I can't even remember...

    My SWR's are weird

I was calling them SWR's because they're different on 1 and 40 LOL. Good point though. On the other hand if they are higher than 1:1 than you would have multiples ('s) LOL. I know what you mean, I hate it when people talk about "driving" a motorcycle. edit: "My SWR readings!"

    My SWR's are weird

I have a Monkey Made MM9 mounted on my bed rail behind my cab on the drivers side. It has a 9" shaft. The coil is about 7" behind the cab. Ideally I should be using a 22 or 27" shaft like the 10K's, which I'm thinking of getting instead of the MM9 I have. Here's the thing. SWR's are 1.8 and...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Well messed around with stuff some more. I was trying the wilson on the roof of my truck and the MM9 behind the cab. Best I could get with the MM9 was 1.8-2.2 (2.2 on 40) behind the cab this time. This was just raising and lowering the whip a smidge, without cutting anything yet. The...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Wow thanks for all the info project. I just picked up an SWR meter. I put the mag mount on the cookie sheet and put it on the roof. Swr's were way too high (over 3). Bigger metal might work better. They were lower sitting on my front room floor, which seemed weird. Then I just slapped...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Use the gutter as the antenna or do you mean as the ground plane for the mag mount? A friend of mine 20 years ago had a 102" sticking out his apt. window and it was only grounded by the right angle bracket resting on the window edging. It was surprising how well it got out, especially since it...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Naw my truck is parked in the garage. I could throw the Wilson mag mount on somebody elses car though.. kidding. Think this is what I'm going to try as a setup. IMO I think it's a pretty good idea for my situation. At least should work lots better than a dipole or mag mount on a cookie...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Another thing I was thinking of would be a Workman B100 (aka Saturn) base antnenna. It's kind of like a large diameter Firestik (about 36" long), that supposidly doesn't require a ground. Was thinking of putting that on about a 12 foot pole but hear they don't work to well. I will just...

    Procomm PAT12 base antenna

Hi guys. I have a Cobra 148F-gtl DX+ that I am going to use as a base. It's in my truck now but I'm going to replace that mobile with a galaxy 979 in the spring, for something a little smaller but more importantly with more features that I want in a mobile. I live in a ground floor...
