Don't care what it is or what shape it's in, the cheaper the better. I have a few ideas I'm looking at testing out and don't have a spare one to work with at the moment. So anyone that's got a working but ugly Cobra 25/29 or Uniden 68/78 or equivalent, let me know! I've got a few of my copper...
lol, I'm thinking by now he oughta be able to make his own board....kudos for the good deed attempt at least...and hey, I'm sure we've all been guilty of it once or twice
3600 board is a very popular board, I like the 6900 boards better for some odd reason though. I'd go with the Galaxy if it were me though. Of course the basic mods on a 148 and then a good alignment...I guess I'm nostalgic when it comes to the older Cobras
Of course I used to run a 102" whip on my mobile, and had a completely adjustable rig thanks to a "Gunslinger" whip adjuster. Why doesn't someone offer a 108" whip? I believe MFJ does if I'm not mistaken....
Not bad on the install, but I'd be wary of the hot glue. If it's working for you then it's serving it's purpose. I've ran stinger boards in the past, both with the infamous RM3 transistor and one with a 1446 pill. While they're good for a few extra watts, I'm more of one to go with at least a 2...
The main thing I'm hoping for out of it, is it to have that Stryker audio, and be good on SSB. I'm liking the display on it, hope that they keep the black knobs since they are so rarely used. I'm curious as to if you can tap a switch in on the face surround knobs like I did on my old 440...
The regular 257's, non HP models, are great rigs. Rock steady on SSB and a nice clean sound on all modes. Might also wait for the Uniden Bearcat 980 to hit the market and see how it is. The Galaxy 979 doesn't have as much of a drift problem from what I've seen as the 949 or 959 models. When it...
Internal amps have a place with some people, and others look down upon them. I agree with the external recommendation. Heat is an issue for those that are long winded, as well as RFI. While they are a good concept, they also have their faults. You'd be happier with an external amp rather than...
If done right, in a 949, the NPC mod works great at making it louder and raises the average power substantially. Of course like it's been said, you'll need to make sure afterwards that you're not overmodulating and the waveform looks good instead of clipping. I've always had good experiences...
It's been a while since the last update, I've got a few antennas built now. I finished the Beast, and one I pay homage to the state I'm from. I actually went a little further with the beast, a lime green coil clear coated with glow in the dark paint.
The other antenna mentioned, is what I...
I also called and talked to them before I refreshed this topic, they say it will be out at the end of the month. Needless to say I can't wait and will be placing one on order ASAP.
since there are other pics of it up on the net, I'm hoping they aren't photoshop retouches and that there's more than one out there as a prototype. I guess we just keep praying to the radio gods that this becomes reality
Barjan (Wilson, Astatic, etc) closed it's doors today and will no longer be manufacturing anything CB related. Unknown if this is true at the moment, it came to me through my distributor. Anyone else know anything about it? Imagine how it would affect our market if it's true....
10K above MM, I've always had less receive with a MM versus any other antenna. I'd back that 490 with a straight 6 pill and let it cruise. TS amps are hogs when it comes to power. Just my .02
JoeDirt, thanks for the find! Yeah I'm about to start building mine tomorrow after I clean up my bench a little bit. Building too many antennas here lately so I've got scrap delrin and copper all over the place. Hmm, I do have an empty KL-40 case, I wonder if that would work as a good project...
Grogan, the contributing post from the other forum says it needs a germanium diode at 1N34A. The BNC output need not be present unless you want to hook up an oscilloscope. Also this version is good for up to 16 watts carrier, it's recommended to tie in another 2700 ohm res in parallel with the...
actually found it on another forum, here's what I was talking about. Take the BNC side off and it's what I was looking for. now excuse me while I go bang my head into a wall.
The RF Sampler you listed RatsoW8, is actually what prompted me to start looking for this one that I found. I saw that...
similar, what I saw once but lost the favorite for, was coax going through a small project box, and sampling off that somehow to headphones. I'm so scatterbrained right now I can't hardly find my own inbox for my email account lol
