    MaCo Super 300 Amateur

Hi Mark, Cool! :-) I've been sick since the first part of this year. However, I'll see if I can get back on my "Super Maco 300" project, soon!

    Unusual PAL VFO

I was digging through some old downloads and found a pdf chart that explains the differences between the various PAL VFOs and how to add and remove parts to get them to do what you want. This information is from the original engineering notes.

MaCo "10 Tuner" VFO - Is it any good?

Thanks for the information! I think I'll stick to PAL and Siltronix VFOs as these MaCo ones don't appear to be very well made.

MaCo "10 Tuner" VFO - Is it any good?

Has anyone ever used a MaCo VFO? If so, did you like it? I'm thinking about buying a couple, but I've never seen one in person, nor have I ever know of anyone who has used one. So, I figured I'd ask you folks for your opinions. Thanks!

    Unusual PAL VFO

Thanks, Nomad! I appreciate the information. Though I've used Siltronix VFOs before, this is my first PAL. I like the nice gear system utilized in the dial. It seems to be especially well-made. I'll look up the changes needed to get the PAL to work with my Sonar FS-3023 and modify it. I'll be...

    Unusual PAL VFO

I picked up this "B-1" PAL VFO a while back and thought I'd share a pic of it as they seem to be kind of rare - at least the ones with "XTAL MODULE" marked crystal jacks on the front. It has a 6.075 mc crystal plugged into it. I haven't been able to find out any information about this particular...

    MaCo Super 300 Amateur

Hi Shadetree Mechanic, Those Sonar 2340s are nice, and you are fortunate to have one! There are a lot of the 23-channel versions around my neck of the woods, but I've never seen a 40 channel version like yours "in person." Your Contex 1 seems similar to my Super MaCo 300. I've even read where...

Hey older hammies, what's with the attitude???

my questions to you older hams are: Are you aware that you come across this way? I don't as I am friendly and am a CBer, myself. I've been licensed since 1984, so I guess I'm sorta an old-timer. Try running AM in one of the AM window frequencies. AMers tend to generally be among the...

    MaCo Super 300 Amateur

Hi - Been a while since I've been here as I've been out of the hobby for a while due to life... :) However, I've been pulled back in due to finding a very nice Super MaCo 300, chrome top, with four M2057s and one 8950. I've never seen one of these before. Is anyone familiar with them? I had a...

Can't decide... Icom-R75 or go SDR?

I enjoy my SDR very much. Mine is basically an inexpensive unit intended for Chinese TV reception inserted into a custom made filter that plugs into a USB port. I configured it for direct sampling, and it covers everything from DC up to 1.7 GHZ. It works amazingly well for what it is. If you...

    I Hate This New Site!!!

Not very hot on the new site, either....and I have commercial broadband access. So, speed is not an issue with me; I just don't care for the layout. That being said, I appreciate the hard work the staff puts into this site. I just personally don't like the new layout.

What's your favorite 'vintage' CB rig?

My favorite is the Pearce-Simpson Guardian 23. The Nuvisitor front-end enables excellent, low noise reception. I've converted mine to 29 Mc. It works better up there than anything else I've used before.

Thanks for posting all of this good information on the JB-series modulators. I'll be incorporating these changes in the ones I have ASAP.

Thanks y'all! I'll give those tubes a try.

    JB 150 8417 Tube Substitute

I was wondering if anyone has modified a "Black Cat" JB 150 to use any tube other than a 8417. Or, is there anything I can directly substitute for this tube? I've read elsewhere that several people have had luck with EL34 or 6L6 tubes. However, I'm interested in hearing from folks here who...

Voice of Russia to Go Dark After All

Russian Hams often hang around 14.200 Mc give or take a few Kcs. I've heard a few on 10 meters over the years, but most of them hang out on the aforementioned section of 20 meters. These folks usually have really good signals, so you should be successful at picking them up. They are on USB...

Voice of Russia to Go Dark After All

The Soviets were definitely masters of shortwave technology. Their 7-10 Mc over the horizon radio system at Chernobyl put out a signal that could be heard over most of the earth 24 hours a day. Man, it took a really good noise blanker to do anything with that "woodpecker" signal. It would...

Voice of Russia to Go Dark After All

Maybe, but they do actually seem to be out of the shortwave business as of yesterday. Links: http://www.eham.net/articles/32030 Shortwave Central: Last two broadcast days for Voice of Russia The Russian shortwave service was around for a long time - I think since the start of the...

Voice of Russia to Go Dark After All

That's a shame. However, their transmissions ceased being very interesting to me after the Soviet Union went under.
