    Suggestion on 1KW 2m amplifier

I certainly does make a lot of sense to run 1.5 KW on 2 meters, if one is doing weak signal tropo and meteor scatter work. If you are just ragchewing across town, then no, it does not make sense.

    Antenna for camping...

Hustler 5BTV vertical is used by many RVers, with great success, even on 80/75 meters.

New Kenwood ts-990 vs. used Icom 7800

I would get the new Kenwood. For the same money you get a NEW radio with warranty. The 7800 can be expensive to ship and repair. The technology in the 990 is more modern than the 7800, too.

    The new Kenwood TS-590SG

There is NO low average power output problem. People think there was, because of a misunderstanding on how the power output meter reads. Even though it is an LCD, it still reads average power, NOT PEP. If you hook one up to an oscilloscope, you will see this.

    Best Mobile Antenna 10 - 40 Meters

Running a Hustler system on 80/40, and hamstick types on 20/17. With the 54" Hustler mast, the whip holder from the hamstick and whip will make a full size 10 meter antenna. Radio is a Kenwood TS480SAT.

    Heathkit sb200 issue

To get full output out of an SB200, you need to drive it with 100 watts. It's in the manual.

    sb-221 Question

Easier way is to hook a watt meter in series with the scope and compare power readings on the meter to scope deflection. So, in this case put a CW signal at 1200 watts through the wattmeter and scope and set the vertical deflection to a reference graticule on the scope face. Then switch to SSB...

    Buckmaster 8 Band OCF QUESTION

I am not a big fan of OCF dipoles. Too many nulls and lobes. Just your luck, one of your buddies will be in a deep null. Regular dipole of inverted V will be much more omnidirectional.

    Mobile Antenna for 10-20

Hamstik type antennas work great on the upper bands. $15-20 at most hamfests.

    Thoughts on this antenna.

Hustler 5BTV. Around $150, tried and true.

    HF Vertical Multi-band

Hustler 5BTV is a great antenna. Needs radials, as do all 1/4 wave verticals. If you elevate it, you only need 4.

    Entry Level HF Rig

My vote is cast on the 480SAT. I have one installed in my mobile, and love it. I do have the extra 1.8 Khz filter, but seldom use it. As far as the mic not plugging into the separate control head, that is fine by me, as it is one less cord dangling around to worry about. My mic cord comes up...

    non-issued callsign

From what I understand it was put in the QRZ database, which is NOT the FCC database, purely for informational purposes only. That call sign has not been issued by the FCC. It is fictitious and is used on the TV show Last Man Standing.

World's largest amateur radio antenna collapses.

I wonder where they got it. Don't see it in the AES or DX Engineering catalogs. On a serious note, I hope they do rebuild it. I never got to hear it on the air. Maybe it will be 5 elements, next time.

    Suggestion on 1KW 2m amplifier

Probably the best quality amplifier on 2 meters, would be a home brew 8877. The M2 amp is a good choice if you do not want to home-brew your own. Lunar is also a great choice. Why 1.5 KW on 2 meters? You can have a blast on SSB doing tropo, meteor scatter, etc. I need to get my antenna back up...

built a 6m Halo today... something is not right.. but it looks good at least

Your over all dimensions may be a bit short too. I have built a copy of the M2 6 meter loop, and if I remember correctly, it is 31" on a side.
