Texas Star DX500 and high SWR

Well I am glad to see that there are those that still are trying to fix these issues. This particular issue has been plaguing this design since it was first brought out, And switching to those DEI transistors further compounded the problems. The input and output tuning & The cost and corner...

This is true. I gave up on all this years ago. Good luck to you if you decide to persure it.

How to perform the 2sc2999 and Schottky diode swap

I have more than a few of the origonal sanyo transistors left, but have my doubts as to the real effectiveness of them. Even doing an HFE test on them and using the highest gain ones I could find, I never really seen a noticeable improvement. I wouldn't bother doing this mod on any of the...

I have been running my Sirio for a couple years on my full size truck using the 165mm mag and have hit all kinds of things and never knocked the antenna off or damaged it.

    Wilson antenna advice

My on topic answer would be that if you were lucky enough to have gotten a pr-bargan era Wilson then the only real difference would be that the 5000 will handle more power. I ran these antennas for years and I couldn't tell the difference between the 1000 and 5000 and neither could the...

Finally bought a Sirio 5000 to try...

I like to add that my experence with using a thicker whip on the Wilson 5000 didn't make a bit of difference in broadbanding. You would be better off having a couple of extra whips on hand for that sirio tuned to the middle of each band to extend your bandwidth..28.500, 29.500 etc.
