i second the Baofeng UV3R, they are cheap, and easily programed with CHIRPS. the radio and cable will run you less than $50.

a barrel length of 7 in, minus the length of the chamber, isn,t going to give you rifle accurucy. I prefer the Rossi wizard, singltnshot rifles, or shotguns that you change the barrel (with out tools). so far I have a 5.56, and 7.62 barrels.

with the savage you can get a threaded barrel from the factory, and there is something extra fun about shooting without wairing protection.
