    Getting set up....

Thank you. I am finding that collecting more gear is a journey.... NOT a destination. I constantly see things I could see using...... Sigh.......

To replace or not to replace?

How did you handle desoldering? To me... THAT is the biggest time chewing factor of all . I was fortunate to get a little cash to put in to a soldering /desoldering station. On a PCB that made it so much easier!

    Variac ?

Google the term "auto transformer". That is actually the generic term. Variac was a brand name.... And it just stuck.

Regarding Lou Franklin's "Understanding Cb Radio".....

I haven't even gotten the automated response that the site said I would get.

A very general troubleshooting question... on PLL/Frequency Synth.

I understand how PLLs work ... Use phase difference to create a control voltage that tunes in the VCO. I'm just trying to get a handle on ... If I put my scope probe on a buffered test point on the VCO..... Would I see a great big signal? Or would I see a little bitty tiny signal? That is...

    old call letters/license

KANE-4109 here. When I became aware of CB licenses they were $20. By the time I got a radio of my own and applied for a license it was only $4. It took about 2 months to get my paper license back and, about 2 months later, I got my $4.00 check mailed back to me as they had done away with...

Ideas on putting together a CB work bench.

Just found this thread and have a related question. I know that they have all kinds of fancy analyzers but, on the more simplistic side, what do you need to perform most RX/TX alignments? I'm sure a good frequency counter, a scope with decent bandwidth, perhaps a vacuum tube volt meter, but...

    CB License

Helping to narrow it down, here is what I remember. All through 1976 I was salivating all over my father-in-laws CB gear. Christmas 1976 she bought me a JC Penney Pinto 23 Channel AM mobile. WHen I got that, I discovered that the fee had dropped from $20 to $4. So I filled out my...

Cb channels empty for the most part.

Seems I have a small handful within 5 or so miles... then other little pockets of activity more like 15-20 miles away.....

    CB size question

    Yeah, the Uniden Bearcat 980 is 7 1/4"W x 7 1/2"D x 2 1/4" and I have heard a lot of good about it.....

SBE Console 2 in the box.

Like a friend of mine once referred to a Jaguar as the only car that can break just sitting in the driveway! Yeah, I think caps too.

What's your favorite 'vintage' CB rig?

SBE Console V I am working on it right now, trying to bring it back to life. It has been out of commission for about 31-32 years now and needs a little TLC. I do like that radio!!!!

    had my radio stolen

That always makes you feel a little sick. They punched the lock out of the door of my F150 at the Park-and-Ride and took my Grant. To be honest... I've been afraid to put anything else in for fear that they'll do it again. It doesn't cost them anything to punch a lock out.....

    I used to know this...

I know that, when we moved in to our town there were two, full-time, real, CB shops in this town alone!!! Of course that was in 1979. they closed up LONG ago. The closest thing to me is a CB shop set up in a trailer at a truck stop on I-10 and a shop that has been around forever ( a...
